i'm playing BF2042 for 3 weeks right now, good to hear that you work on some problems, and that you will hear our opinion on maps and the design.
Generally, I can say EVERY Map is WAY too big, way too confusing (everyone can see everything in 360° angle) and not balanced (areas where infantry will fight, another area where booth will fight, and areas which are made for vehicles).
In Discarded (128P) you will run from B2 to C1 around 200-300m, it just depends where you exactly spawn. And then you will run the least 80m an open field where anyone can see you. Each sniper, each Tank, each Helicopter, everyone! I mean each day you can fall from a 6:2 K/D to a 6:12 K/D within 2 minutes, without having any chance just to shoot one enemy, just because everywhere are tanks or sniper. Absolutely bad map design!
Breakaway (128P) is that bad too. Do it, just spawn on D1, you will spawn in a completely open field, everywhere could be Tanks, sniper, or just a big group of enemies right next to your spawn point. Got more than a few times more than 5 spawn kills in one round. Absolut bad map design!
Renewal 128 Players as well. Try it out and spawn on E1, how should you run? There is a complete open field between E1 -> D2, E1 -> C1, E1 -> the gate in direction to B1 and of course the next open field right before you enter B1. Completely bad Map design! (The last time I played this map, I didn’t get hit by the Tornado, just because the complete Tornado was so small, or the map that big, that this natural disaster didn’t impact 1% of the complete round)
Kaleidoscope … I don’t want to say anything, sorry.
This is the same for every map, you will spawn on every flag somewhere in an open field, anyone can kill you directly after you spawn and you need to run a few hundred meters for the next flag. Only that a little camper boy can snipe you on the last 50-100m, definitely no skilled map design!
For a normal gamer it is almost impossible to destroy the vehicles a good way, I shoot a few times an absolutely perfect bazooka in front of a helicopter, the pilot stays alive, I got killed, the helicopter was at 50% hit points and still can fly and taking targets. Sorry but he MUST be dead, or at least unusable. A Pilot has to make a decision, is it worth it to get that near to my enemies, or is it to dangerous. Actually it is: I don’t care, shoot at me, I will shoot at you too and always win. You still need a few players who will fight synchronous with you to take him down, Tanks as well. And HELL are a few light tanks FAST…. What the *, it feels like they drive with 80 km/h in a Shooter ….. Sorry…. I may sounds hard to you, but for a game which is 4 month old, there are so many absolutely basics you don’t manage to work … from 1 (good) to 10 (bad) you hit a 8,5+ for most balance decisions.
It is very hard to write down all the issues in one letter, you made the decision not to invite the playtesters anymore to get a good picture of where the weaknesses of the game are, that’s your problem, get it fixed and work with overtime on the problems.
the only good thing is it can't get any worse. So please, add a lot of stuff in the maps, so we can limit the way a tank can use, or the area which a helicopter can cover. This will also help normal players get covered from one spot to another, then I highly recommend to adjust the ability to kill any vehicle, I don’t need to one-shot any vehicle, but a helicopter which was hit by a bazooka still needs to be broken or unusable. The light Tanks shouldn’t be that fast, 2/3 of the speed is more than enough. Work on the balance for normal weapons, like the M5A3 got in comparison to the PP29 (just an example), it feels like the smaller weapon does more dmg and more accurate dmg on long range?! Or is that just a feeling …?
And, a few small but easy fixes,
• implement fraction-based specialists, this makes it much easier to spot the enemy. (They can have the same abilities, but looks different…)
• Implement an infantry only conquest/rush server
• Implement more weapons
• Implement old maps, continuous. (Like Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, something like that!)
• Implement game types like Team Deathmatch, Gun game, whatever … continuous!
• Implement a Squad select system (the Scoreboard is on its way, after 4 month… 😉 )
• Disable this useless loading screens, in the past you don’t need them ?! Why now …
It's not easy for me to write in a post where a flag point is good, where it's bad, where a container is missing, where a hill, etc. in voice chat it would be much easier, maybe you just implement direct communication again where you it can be said directly, live, what is good and what is bad on a map.
