I have a similar post here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Feedback/Logical-way-to-re-instate-classes-and-balance-specialists/m-p/10834537#M6879
> The problem with your solution is you don't take into consider how the controller functions work with how the specialist set up is for a throwable and a gadget only. No slot for a second gadget.
> They would have to do a lot of revamping to make controller keys and triggers function differently.
This isn't a problem at all, controls would be the same as previous games with two equipment slots and a grenade, specialists are basically combat roles from BFV but with a monetised skin and an additional equipment option in one slot rather than further class restrictions. So for example Mackay could pick a slingshot or a grenade launcher in his primary equipment slot. Just use the controls from previous games and find somewhere to put the dinky attachment thing.
> Plus redo their thoughts/strategy on balancing the game.
There is no thought to balancing in this game.
When you can equip any combination of anything the perfect balance system that BF had, classes, is gone and replaced by nothing. Add OP and gameplay impacting gadgets and all BF has become is a giant sandbox to play in one of a million ways, which in the long run isn't fun or engaging. No-one has made the comparison but this game felt like GTA-ified BF to me, even the gunplay was almost as frustrating and clunky as GTA given the issues with aim and sensitivity that lots and lots of people are talking about.
One thing that isn't talked about a lot is classes weren't just about team play, they were a part of threat detection on offence in that you would approach fighting a medic and engineer (which you could discern from character models) differently in different situations. Adding class restrictions back in actually provides balance the specialists need, in that if you see someone slingshotting around the place you know what kind of weapons and gear they might be carrying and can strategist. This video sums up the role of classes in BF really well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZPZzSBVdTo.
People talk about this being like COD loadouts, but COD has perk slots which are essentially their version of class restrictions, and they have a big impact on gameplay and strategy. You want two primaries you pick Fully Loaded but you are showing up on radar and heartbeat. You want to stay off radar and heartbeat you pick Ghost but you give up your second primary. You can be 100% certain the next COD game is not going to just get rid of perks and give all operators crazy gadgets, because that would essentially change the entire game and how it plays and alienate its fanbase. Sure some people might like it, but they will be in the minority.
> I saw a lot of teammate work in the beta to take out tanks. They really don't need to revamp things.
They do. What if someone destroys you with a heli and you want revenge? You don't need teamwork to equip an armor box and AA and spam air vehicles with rockets for 15 minutes. Likewise you don't need teamwork to equip ammo and a sniper and sit on a hill. In previous games camping forever wasn't possible because you would run out of ammo. You have your experience, but all I saw in the beta was chaos that made no sense, it was just people running around shooting at stuff. I didn't get in to one pitched standoff with a team or squad trying to push or defend an objective. I couldn't tell who had what equipment friend or foe, so I couldn't plan or adjust my playsyle for different situations given anyone could be carrying anything. Eg you never know who has a sniper rifle, visa versa you see a ghille suit but you don't know if they are carrying an smg. Most games i got bored in about 5 minutes and quit.
> As for specialist becoming unpopular, I like what they did. I think a lot of others like it also. You're just not hearing from them as the forums seems to be mostly for complaints as it has been for all the versions of Battlefield that I have played. And that is since Bad Company 2.
I've played every game since BC2 also, almost exclusively in terms of my time spent gaming, and i've never had an issue with any release, they were all BF games in the core gameplay dynamics created by the combination of classes, vehicles and destruction. People can live with specialists, but deleting classes, switching to emotionless 3rd person takedowns, hyping the movement way beyond COD into Apex territory, these are all things that say to fans "this isn't BF any more, we don't care about the formula that made BF unique we just want to directly copy things from other games".
Certain changes literally boggle my mind, which is why I am here posting. Something like first person takedowns, they had an opportunity to monetise something unique ... I would actually enjoy wild and unique first person takedowns, whereas I hate the COD style 3rd person ones since they ruin the immersion and sense that I am taking the action. I mean look at the emotion and quality of the animation in this: https://youtu.be/WY2-hHGWh2A this is why people love Battlefield, all the small details that were different to other games summmed up to an experience, and a lot of that has gone.
I like the idea. I doubt its too late but I like the idea.
