@TsR-RareAir23You will probably find a lot of people frown upon using a vpn while gaming, but that's because there has been an almost criminal generalization tied to their use ( which obviously that's unfair ), but you know how it is, they hear one bad story and then their memory is forever sealed lol.
People who are gaming from a rural location often don't have very stable internet connections and require a gaming VPN service to help improve routing (this decreases packet loss and also reduces ping) and or bonding requirements to improve stability (eg. two connections in redundancy bonding mode).
For example, my primary connection is Starlink ISP, which is very fast, and has high bandwidth but due to coverage can be a bit spotty which can cause packet loss and or disconnections from servers during gameplay, and my secondary connection which is more stable but much slower is what I call my backbone connection, which I bond to my primary connection via a bonding service called speedify (not advertising), and my packets will pass through their VPN before being delivered to the game server. What this does is sends one packet down each connection and the first to make it back wins, but if the primary packet drops, the second packet on the backbone will replace it, and this makes my connection super stable.
Sadly some people don't account for VPN based services for gaming and ban all use, even though these services are crucial for some to be able to access internet services to begin with.
Some examples are routing services like WTfast, and (aus)Telstra's routing services, or speedifys routing/bonding services.
With that said, If I can't use a VPN, they won't be getting my money, and there is not much I can do about that because I have to use one and it's not a choice. Most games allow it, sometimes uneducated server owners enforce their own anti vpn stance on their servers.
- 3 years agoIn fact, using proxy servers helps to hide your location in the game and on the general Internet.
