We don't know this will happen. Nothing I have read has said that MS will be bringing the back-catalog to GP.
They don't even have their own franchises back catalog available in GP. Take Forza (+ Horizon) for example.

I heard they were. My point being that youd expect some resurgence in some old COD servers. Yes i know most BFs are in EA Access with Game Pass and they arent getting played. BF4, BF1 had private servers so theres a couple of fan run servers that can be played. Unfortunately in my region they are only hardcore rules settings with banned equipment. They play horrible.
Further there are already some rather avg shooters that are free to play. Fortnight, Apex, COD Warzone that have huge numbers because they are free. Halo Infinite is free with GamePass.
And now this BF is free. So they arent getting new sales, nor any $$ from Seasons. So that eliminates the level of on going support and necessary content from DICE required to bring this game back to life. Their focus is on their skin, cosmetic packs currency built around 4 season map launches in 2yrs.
I believe they will continue to support develop for next 12 months if recent statements are true. Then what? Make another title and do it all again?
They wont be getting their map count anywhere near 25. Which is what they need if they start another BF.
The only card they have is to bring in a master collection like Halo did. With 128 players not as supported / popular with fans then bf2042 is dead. Therefore they need to standardise 64 player scale BF that matches their back catalogue. Even complete rebuilds if necessary. They started in Portal to do just that but never followed through. They added two new 64 player maps in 2yrs and no more previous BF maps which would have carried a lot of cred with fans.
The only way to save BF and bring back the fans is to put a heap of their popular/best maps into a bundle.
