Bf2042 2 different accounts same internet line

I play bf2042 with my partner (same house, different PCs and accounts) and I always had this problem where the players look like they’re stuttering and skating. My partner never gets this issues, only me.
I tried changing the game settings and played alone which I thought worked because I didn’t encounter any problems at all. But when we played together, I got the same stuttering issues again. Same thing happens no matter if it’s 128 or 64 players.
I play a lot of fps games including BF5 and Fortnite but this only happens in bf2042.

This frustrates me a lot cuz my partner is always on the top 3 every game and here I am unable to play decently because ever player around me looks like they’re skating on ice. TIA

Device: PC
GPU: 3080

Internet Speed:10Gb

Server: Jp

  • @Chbmr18 First of all, I'm super jealous of that 10gigabit internet.

My only guess is something allocating more bandwidth to your partner on your modem/router (QoS). I'm curious about what home networking setup you're using to split 10 gigabit service between the machines at your house, I assume something fairly enterprise-y. If they are playing 2042 and you play any other game does it lag at all? Have you run any ping tests to see if your ping is having issues or maybe you're dropping packets?

There's networking debugging features in the options as well that you can enable to see if the statistics look vastly different between the two of you.

  • Enable the network performance features, record 5min of game play and post links here.

    Ideally include

    • Clip of you playing solo with no issues
    • Clip of you playing with partner with issues
    • Clip of partner playing with you

Also have your partner play on your PC while you play on theirs. Does your partner experience the issues on your PC? Do you notice the issue while playing on theirs?  I suspect you both have the same issue, but you are more sensitive/perceptive of it.

Are you both wifi or hardwired?  If wifi can you try hardwiring to see if that fixes it?  Can you swap router cables/ports with your partner?

As Anobix points out I would look into QOS and see if disabled helps, failing this do both of you have static IP's. It is usually recommended that you do when playing on the same network.

  • Thanks!
I’m not very techy and my partner actually assembled my PC for me but I just found out that my LAN cable supports up to 1Gb while my partner’s is 10Gb compatible. 😅

I also tested my ping and it was giving 13.
After learning about the LAN cables, I changed all of my in-game video settings to lowest and I was able to play decently for the first time. Thanks for your help!

@Chbmr18 I'm glad to hear that it was working better, but with your system you shouldn't need to run at the lowest settings. Ping being 13 is very very good, so definitely not the issue. It could still be some network performance issue that is giving preference to your partner's computer while they are using it, but the game doesn't use anywhere near that amount of bandwidth, so having a gigabit line is more than sufficient unless, as mentioned, 99.9% of the bandwidth is going to your partner (or some amount of P2P transfers...)
