I have played on other clan servers, my clan's and yes ATF's servers (good group of guys btw) for years and it was a far superior system for community building than any of the current alternatives. A properly administrated server clears out all the jackasses, griefers and cheaters, something that can't be done currently.
Due to this fact, player retention was a lot higher in older titles as well as the overall gaming experience. I hated playing on public servers then, and I hate being forced into it now.
I would really like to see the rental servers return, with of course a server browser so I can favorite good servers and avoid the "badmin" servers like before.

MM has destroyed the BF community.
Like you I would welcome the return of rental servers it was fun being able to join your favourite server every day and stay on it all day if you wanted.
Now we spend so much time in lobbies and playing on anonymous servers it's nothing like what it used to be and a definite retrograde step,
