Bf2042 free to play
Over the last few days I’ve seen news that this game will become a Free to Play, is this true ? I hope not after spending a lot of money on this game. Hopefully they can fix the problems the game h...
Free doesn't make it fun. The pre-release videos of the BF 2042 looked awesome and I thought the game would be fun to play but it is not. (Note - Portal might be OK but I am referring to the core game only.) Huge, flat maps where vehicles get easy points picking off players trying to get from one base to another - shooting fish in a barrel. Not fun for the fish. Anyone lucky enough to spawn into a vehicle gets quick points capping flags initially, then more points because they are instantly in battle. The rest of the players are running miles across expansive maps typically killed as they approach any base by those already there. (Not fun). Maps have huge open areas between bases providing no little to no cover - sniper bait, tank bait, helicopter bait, hovercraft bait, everything will kill you and there are no weapons strong or can be fired fast enough to fight back. (Not fun). If you do find cover, it will only shelter you in one direction - you will die within seconds from the other 3 directions. (Spawn and try, try again - Not fun). Rows of containers in Manifest map are in perfect alignment as opposed to be randomly dumped in on a road. Just running along the row of containers exposes you forever - good luck - not fun.
All the maps need trenches, tunnels, more buildings with subways and secret passages to navigate. That way you can fight your way to another area of the map without repeated death from vehicles. Not like Renewal map that has shallow, perfectly straight farming trenches that offer no actual cover. Or the wall of death - the map is split in half by a 50ft high wall - there are no doors, tunnels, stairs, manholes or ladders as in previous Battlefields. The map is wide open getting to the wall so you'll probably die 20 times before you realize the wall just as 3 entrances for vehicles. There are two fun sections in this map - the building with 2 flags is fun, so is the center wall entrance and the containers next to it.
The maps are so big that graphics quality sucks compared to prior games. Even good GPUs have to cut back on quality due to extreme map sizes. To Dice's credit, I can see enemy from much further away than BF5 where I was killed by invisible plays if I turned my graphics settings to low - planes would only appear within a certain distance and the good pilots were releasing bombs outside of that range (Panzer Storm). If there is a way for the EA servers to incorporate their own GPUs which could process foundational graphics for all players...leaving high resolution to our own GPUs then maybe the large maps would look better.
Free to play will not benefit EA because the game is simply not fun. It will just show more people it isn't fun. The game isn't broken but the maps need to be reworked so people will want to stay in the game. And please get rid of the annoying 4 random high scoring players at the end of each match. The say the same thing every single time which only adds to the frustration.
Fix the game and free to play might be a good idea. IF EA goes that direction they should give everyone who bought the game several special character NFTs and special weapon NFTs that we could sell to other players if we chose to. That way we would own something special or get our beta-testing money back by selling them.
Looks like portal is rumored to be f2p.
So we have gone from games with £100 million+ budgets, who struggled to keep game prices under £70 for the last 15 years to now offering their product for free. And where are they going to make back the money they invested?
