64 players BT has never been balanced. It's the sole reason why there's so many complaints about aircraft dominating infantry. The old 128 player layouts were more balanced seeing as defenders actually could contest the skies and stop armor advances.
You are remembering pretty bad 128 player defense way worse than 64
I literally refused to play defense on 128 players but don't have a lot of issues in 64 other than the choppers being OP but they are just as OP in 128

I find it funny that both teams spawn at the same time away from the objectives, so the initial defense is not even set up yet when the attackers arrive.
If they rush the first sector immediately, it is an easy cap.

I can understand the defense not having a transport (aka flying fortress...) for a HIND/Condor due to the nature of the location, but to not have any air vehicles at all is just terrible design. Either the maps were bad enough that they couldn't be balanced/placed to properly have air vehicles on either side, or the vehicles were too overpowered for what they needed to do. But when defenders have at most a LAT/Hovercraft vs tanks/choppers/transports and some poorly guarded area it is just a bad feeling all around.

Let's face it, 50% of the issue is that most of the team could give two poops about the objective and only worried about a few things:
1. Getting as many kills with their sniper rifle as possible without getting killed
2. Working on a mastery badge for their favorite character
3. Working on that mission for the battle pass.
Everything else including reviving you while standing on top of you or clearing the objective doesn't matter at all.
