Can anyone explain the live service aspect of this game

To make it short:
There is none at the moment.
To give a proper answer:
I think DICE had some stuff in mind and maybe even wanted to release some parts of it. But then the release date came and all the problems became obvious. Bugs, glitches, messed up game modes in Portal (zombie mode...), xp farming in Portal, gadgets/gear that caused problems, CtD increases and the directX error bug since last patch...
So the developers now need to be firefighters and try to fix the most messed up problems. So there is simply just no time for them in working on live services (which btw needs to be checked twice for bugs, just to be sure). EA is probably not happy about the sales numbers too and puts the studio under pressure. It's the same situation that happened with Anthem.
And to be honest, I don't want to switch places with a DICE developer right now. The pressure must be insane. The so called "toxic" community is their least problem. Still I'm hoping they can fix most of the problems, but my hope decreasing...
But nothing is being fixed. Literally nothing.

I'm quite enjoying no longer being frozen in place by explosives rounds since the last patch.
And that is just one example.- @Trokey66 That's a bug QA/Playtesting should have seen after 1 match of playing. Saying its fixed now is good, but it shouldn't have been there at launch and certainly not present for nearly 2 months.
I was kinda hoping after the holiday break they were gonna be "sorry we messed up, this is our plan to fix it and this is what you guys can be expecting" but aside from the explosives locking you in place fix, there weren't that much other good fixes in the last update, hell, it made other things break for a lot of people who can't even play now...
Its all a bit "too little, too late" at this point in time... they had time to at least give out a statement or at least something informational but its dead silence... Expect bare-minimum content on seasons and that'll be that.
