It's not about how often you get killed, it's more the fact that you get killed by an autonomous tank which does not require any player input while engaged in combat. There are few things I find more annoying in this game than to be killed by a ranger while engaged in combat with other players while the owner of the ranger is downed. It's ridiculous.
As mentioned, I do not believe equipment or weapons which does not require user input in a game to kill should be in any player vs player FPS games. It just feels cheap to get killed by it, even more so under certain conditions.

This game is actually having a really small number of automated stuff for a game set 22 years from now.
and I disagree about the frequency of being killed by something not mattering. if something kills you a lot then it is likely very strong or too strong. If something almost never kills anyone and mainly just puts someone on an almost 2 min cooldown from calling a lot more deadly things down, then it is hardly a threat.
However if someone gets really close to the ranger I would think it would be fair to allow a melee takedown of the ranger

My statement was mainly towards the ranger itself and how it's not how much it kills you that matters. I agree that if a weapon or vehicle kills you a lot it indicates poor weapons/vehicle balancing, which we have seen and are still seeing a fair amount of in the game.
I am not saying Ranger is the most lethal weapon you can call in either, but it feels really cheap to be killed by one of these when you have no way of killing it and don't have enough HP to get into cover or it gets a HS on you dropping you faster than you can run away from it. It's way to tanky in it's current state and there needs to be ways for infantry to kill it. As mentioned as well it can take up to 3-4 rounds from a Tank. The * is with this? They need to implement as you say, a way for infantry to engage it in melee, and need to reduce the armor/health on the thing. And perhaps include critical hits which will take it out of play till its fixed by the operator. If things like this is not implemented, I think they should just remove it as it's a nuisance, and for me ruins a lot of the game experience.
