Class/Specialist Concept

Instead of Specialists being tied to a person have them tied to a piece of equipment or gadget.

So bring back the classes: Medic, Engineer, Support, Recon maybe add a 5th Assault   -- In BF4 Assault is the Medic.

Increase Squads to 5 or 6

Tie the specialists item to a new specialist slot for each class.  So each class has a new slot for the item.

Keep the load out restrictions in place for each class or tweak them a little.  Similar to BF4, but not exact.

Then players could customize their character to their likening and still have the benefit of the specialist tools.

This will limit the specialist traits to just the tools. No other abilities.  Keeping the players the same while adding a new special tool to the inventory.

Maybe not the best idea but a starting place to try and merge the classes and specialist ideas while maintaining the class structure and game play.

Just a thought.

@carsono311 I think what people mainly wanted was things like the medic crate, to be limited to the medic specialists.. and the ammo crate, limited to the support ones..

Currently ANY specialist can have those.

I respectfully have to disagree with the  already identified by familiar "Classes" as the classes in BF2042 are meaningless. Take the class label off the specialist and there is no change to the way the specialist still functions. They might have "special" abilities and a gadget but now can loadout as any class of old or multiple.

In BF4 each class has dozen of weapon choices, over a dozen of gadgets that could be setup is hundreds of different load outs.  But they choices were restricted to the class.  Now with Specialists, that is no longer the case.  It might seem there is more variety but in the end I believe it will come down to certain loadouts/specialist that will become dominate.  I did cancel my pre-order not just because the specialist.  The state of a Aug build and 3 months to launch gives me great concerns as to the state of the game when it does launch.   I remember BF4 launch, thought they worked it all out, it took 6 months.   I'll save my money and let the others spend $60+ to be beta test this setup.  I have other games to play until they work things out. Only time will tell if this direction works.  We'll see in a few months.

I just think the Specialist were a copy from other games rather than adding something new to the existing structure.  A structure that made the game stand out from the others.  This game structure is what drew me to BF in the first place.  There are plenty of COD and Apex type games out there but there was only 1 Battlefield.  Now I'm not so sure.
