Commander Role

Bearing in mind dice have a mobile version of the game in development.

A commander based app similar to BF4 would be great to have again. Accessible via your tablet, phone or PC if you run dual/multi monitor setups.

Thoughts?

  • Only if the commander and assets are in game. No more detached commanders.

BF4 you could not kill the commander but he could you.

BF2 had a better commander and asset setup.

Would be cool if there was a command vehicle that you could request that had similar functions of the commander in the (large) area around the vehicle but with being a physical asset that had to be in the play area to be useful, would be equally vulnerable as it is useful to the team.

Or certain objectives unlock Commander functions,  meaning while your playing Commander, you'd need your squad to watch your back. It should also rotate among objectives,  so one doesn't become the popular hot spot

Having assets in the main spawn might work better as both have.  You will still need support at times.

Shared assets on objective like BF4 just made some commander quit.  They only want the Big Bang kill not interested in supporting the team.

  • Don't Think we will ever see such a mechanic again. it was awesome in the old games as well with map and squad mechanics. But the way Dice have swift, newer battlefields will have less focus on team and squad mechanics.

If they will ever do this again they need to restructure their game to fit their older goals. Battlefield 4's command system was flawed and was more to lure in customers in like with battlefield 5 fortification.
Would be cool if they went back to more team-oriented gameplay or at least put some love into those mechanics again instead of the pure arcade shooter runner style. or as some have come to call it. chaotic gameplay.

  • I enjoyed the BF4 commander concept, however the lack of VOIP and intersquad communication really destroyed the role. Given 2042 looks like they are going forward with 4 man squads of all things I think it will likely be excessively disorganized.
