Console players....give the PS4 version a go....it's a much better experience.

I decided to give the PS4 version of BF2042 another go tonight (since you can't find a 128 player match on PS5 anyway) and I have to say the experience is simply much better in terms of the fairness of the gameplay.

When playing on the PS5 version there are around 10 times a match where I have to think "how the hell did that guy know exactly where I was just then?"

I'm not a rambo run and gun player charging around in the open. I like to sneak around when I can.

9 times out of 10 I find that it's a PC player that seems to have an uncanny (cough, cough) ability to know where me and my team-mates are.

Sure....I am well aware that there are plenty of ways to get spotted in this game but this sort of thing just DOES NOT HAPPEN on the PS4 version anywhere near as often as it does on the PS5 version where we are forced to cross-play with PC players.

If it was gameplay related I would expect the instances of this sort of "wow...that guy has amazing tactical awareness" situation to be about even on the two versions.

That is simply not the case.

The graphics are not as good and the loading times are a bit longer but the advantages of being able to play WITHOUT the cross-play with PC players far outway any disadvantages of the PS4 version.

I would encourage any console players to give the PS4 version of BF2042 a go and see what you think.

There aren't that many advantages to playing on the PS5 any more.

128 player matches just aren't available.

If we are being forced to play the 64 player maps, we might as well do it without the PC crowd and the (legal and not so legal) advantages that the PC system offers.

There is the chance that once more console players realise just how much fairer the gameplay is on the PS4 version we may in fact be able to get enough of the population to recognise it and subsequently be able to populate a few "cross-play OFF" PS5 servers at some time in the future.

That would indeed be a best case scenario.

I'm sure the PC crowd will get on board here with the "get gud bro" comments.

Their system just has advantages in input that make movement and gameplay in general much easier.

Aim assist on console comes nowhere near equaling the advantage that Mouse and Keyboard input offers.

Then there are the "other" advantages that just aren't an issue when you don't have to play against them.

I've played since launch with cross-play ON.

I've had to to even find a match when playing the PS5 version.

If the PC "advantages" weren't far more prevalent than anyone in the PC zone are willing to admit then the difference in gameplay between the two versions (PS5 and PS4) would not be as obvious as it really is when you take the time to give both of them a go.

Just saying.....

console players.....give the PS4 version a go and see what YOU think.

An additional benefit of last gen is that Hind/Condor gunners are limited to unassisted stick aiming.

Tracking moving players while countering the vehicle movement is challenging.  A good condor crew on last gen might get 25 kills in a match. And those good crews are few and far between - maybe 1 in 20 matches have a transport worth worrying about. I suspect that Hind/Condor balance was balanced for unassisted controller users rather than KBM users.

  • @Kaptyn027 Have both 64 and 128 versions on my Xbox X. For the couple of weeks, I have been playing on the Xbox One (64 player) version.
I prefer it - the 64 player maps work better than the 128 player maps, IMHO. Also, my favourite maps are the BF3 maps, so no downside at all.

@OskooI_007Got any hacks in that chair? The OP basically says all PC players hack so I assume you keep them in your chair. Never seen cheats in consoles ever. PC can have some good gear, high DPI mice etc, and some better video settings, that’s all true. Thankfully all PC players hack and it has nothing to do with this busted game where I spend entire rounds spotted by numerous sources.
  • That's not actually what I said at all.

That is however the exact sort of response I expected from a PC player.

Pretty sure Oskool007 understood clearly what I was saying about the extent of the issue.

He just had the wit to respond in a humerous way instead of getting his panties in a twist over it.

You guys CHOOSE to put yourselves into that environment.

Many players on console would like the option not to (and still be able to find a match).

I tried every option I could find to get into a 128 player match last night.......it simply wasn't happening.

With that option no longer available the tipping point between playing on the PS5 version and the PS4 version has shifted dramatically for me.

If the advantages are no longer there....I don't feel I need to put up with the disadvantages any more.

I'll still play the PS5 version against the PC players....but when I see the same familiar names on the enemy team (and on my own team too) I'll just have more of an option to avoid playing with or against them altogether.

I have far more than 9 interactions with PC players per match.

Most of the time if I lose out it's just down to better gameplay on the part of the other player.

Sometimes it doesn't feel that way....and sometimes it's blatantly obvious that skill has nothing to do with it.

Crossplay with PC has actually made it far easier to recognise just how prevalent this sort of thing is in this game.

The stark difference between the gameplay experiences in the two environments playing the same game is obvious to those who pay attention to it.

Although I have the PS5, I only play the PS4 version.

No fast turning PC players, PC snipers, and I Iike the 64 players maps. Me and at least 10 of my friends. No PC fodder.

PS5 and XSX only are dead. You have to turn cross play with PC or you won't have any matches.

How I wish we could have all consoles grouped together in one version, cross gen... ☹️

  • @A-RAF2019
It was actually the intention prior to release to give us that option.
In the Beta test there were TWO "crossplay ON/OFF" options in the menus on the PS5.
One was to turn crossplay off altogether and only allow your type of console version. The other was to remove PC crossplay and allow all the consoles only.
They removed the second option for the release version of the game.
Wonder what would happen if they put this option back in the game?

  • @Kaptyn027 I'm on PS5 and couldn't agree more. It's pretty frustrating. I'll have to give the PS4 version a try. I'll keep an eye out for you.
