In terms of a line of accounting, any labor charged to the BF2042 charge code is a loss at this point. Everything related to this game has been a loss for EA and DICE. They went to minimal manning after the train wreck launch and never looked back.
They had to hit a certain number of sales to make a profit and they came nowhere near it. So once that occurred, to prevent even more losses, EA pulled the funding to DICE and only left enough to fulfill legal obligations. So DICE had to figure out how many devs they could devote to this title with so little funding. Then you have studios like Ripple Effect, which was supposed to be a huge part of Portal and yet we literally have had nothing new in Portal outside of pre-developed content.
So things like the Class system, which seems like a massive undertaking probably took a couple of devs a week or two to complete. All-Chat, just a few lines of code and bam.Map changes? So minor that each one could be completed and tested in a few weeks, yet it has taken months per update and even those were still under par.
- SCUBASTEVE1202 years agoSeasoned Ace@Adamonic Wow you make great points. This should've been the topic. How are they "all hands on deck with 2042", when this sounds like the truth.

What extra maps they had for this game have been transferred to the next Battlefield. I doubt more than two people are working on this game by the lack of maps/patches.

They need to release DEV tools so the community can improve the game with outstanding mods like in ARMA3. The battlefield 2042 engine with mods would be so cool.

I agree it would be cool, but sadly I can't see it happening at this late stage of development.
- SCUBASTEVE1202 years agoSeasoned Ace@UP_LordPlumber Absolutely agreed. Yes it may have "divided the community", but only somewhat and that didn't really happen to way after the games life cycle. I mean just look at bf3 & bf4. You could play their dlc maps 5+ years after launch. Sure it wasnt the whole player base, but I got many people to buy dlcs in bf3 & bf4 because they wanted to play the cool new maps and use all the new weapons. I miss the real premium days. If you notice on the battle pass when you buy it, it actually says premium with the old bf3 premium logo 🥲

@SCUBASTEVE120This is why we need Premium and paid DLCsI would go back to Premium / Paid DLC's in a heartbeat. 👍

It would cost less than the ultimate edition but because more people would pay in, they would have the financial incentive to make more stuff- RayD_O12 years agoHero

100% this.
If the Premium model had been in place we would have had 4 new maps etc added every 3 months, so we would have at least 12 more maps than we have currently.Could you imagine 23 AOW maps !
