CPU upgrade dilemma for BF2042

So, I game with a 5800X3D and can not say enough good things about this CPU,  ALBEIT I do also have a 4090 GPU and game at 4k 120hz.    

In your circumstance I would still choose the 5800X3D but you gotta ask yourself.....do you game more than you do video production?  if so then the 5800X3D is a no brainer.  
https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator/result/1fN1bh/38/battlefield-v/1920x1080/ (unfortunately there is no option for Battlefield 2042).   the issue of the bottleneck here isnt cuz of the CPU.  The issue stands on your GPU.  but also gaming at 1080p is giving you this bottleneck.   The GPU is better off gaming at 1440p in this situation.  


On the other hand, to alleviate stress from your GPU and you don't plan on upgrading your GPU anytime soon, the 5900x is a no brainer.   12 cores is more than enough to handle any game.

looking at your current build, if you were to get a better monitor to be able to game at 1440p, or even a 4k monitor but still set it to 1440p gaming, you'll still come out on top.

Thank you all, guys, for your replies.

I ordered the 5900X, which now is in limited availability in the stores and at a very good price.

 I thought it would be a good upgrade also for my musical software like Studio One and Sonar and my VST Instruments and effects and for video rendering.

 Also, relatively future-proof for my needs in gaming.

 Still, I think that 5800X3D would be also a great choice.

 Anyway, I use liquid cooling for my 5600X, compatible with the 5900X due to the same socket, so I guess I am covered regarding temps.

 Thank you all again so much, you helped me think a lot!!!!

 Tonight is my last day with my also wonderful 5600X :-)

    very awesome to hear that!   When you re-paste the new CPU, make sure you get some Thermal Grizzly Kryonaught, or if you don't wanna be messy with it, you can also get a 38mmx38mm sheet of Carbonaught or Kryosheet, this will also ensure there is an even distribution of thermal conductivity across the die.

      @NehkidGramma84 Thank you so much!!! I have the Arctic Silver 5, and it gives me good thermal results. Is there a special reason to use the one that you purpose?

        Given that you have that paste, i would stick with that if you have some left over laying around.   They are very similar in performance actually.  I was suggesting that carbonaught/kryo sheets cuz of their ease of use, and you can re-use them if you get a new CPU or cooler in the future.
