What is so odd is that they took so many options away from the players. You can't choose what server or map you play on in AOW due to the lack of a server browser. You can't choose your team or your squad. The list goes on and on. It really doesn't make any sense.

Exactly this, BF2042 / MM has taken away ALL choice and now we play the game the way MM decrees not how we want to play it.
In previous BF's we were able to save favourite servers which you could then easily select and stay on that server all day / night if you wanted, playing with friends / clan mates..
It was very much a community driven gaming environment and totally the opposite of what we have today. BF2042 is soul less in comparison.
We spend so much wasted time needlessly going back and forth to lobbies which just adds a layer of frustration and destroys all continuity.
If BF2042 is to have any future then the first thing DICE need to do is add in a desperately needed Server Browser / Persistent Servers in the hope of attracting players / clans etc which after all are the backbone of any game.
The clock is ticking so they need to act fast,

Exactly it is undoubtedly the one thing that could turn BF2042 around. !
I actualy find it pretty insulting that they haven’t said a single word about this. It strikes me that they’re just burying their heads in the sand as though addressing it might tip them over the edge.
there was like one mention in the developer briefing video about bringing in squad controls. But I honestly down think they realise how critical this actually is.
Hell even saying that they are working on fixing / bringing in a fixed map rotation, or two round matches would at least show they are actually understanding what BF is really about.

The lack of server browser / persistent servers definitely drove players away so the reverse should apply if they gave the community what they have been asking for.
