Well looks like I was wrong, I searched youtube for gameplay footage of Paik before and after patch 1.2 and I found the max distance an enemy could be scanned is the same.
@kregora I tried Paik at the release of the game and only picked her up again to T1 her about a month before patch 1.2. As far as I can tell, her scan range was always short before patch 1.2. Before that patch I would be in close range fights with the scanner on, and enemies would suddenly popup / red and was very disorienting.
The scan was honestly also a hinderance and would get me killed, as I expected the scan to reveal enemies, but it didn't at ranges where I think it should. Now the scan reveals players much farther than what I think it should.

Paik tosses smoke and runs and and kills the oblivious highlighted players, and at that point I'm not sure if I'm playing BF or Apex Legends.
Then I watch the Pathfinder/Mackay grappling above me to impossible to reach firing positions and I'm pretty sure I'm playing Apex...😛
