@CPT_GASLIGHT What made BF different is that it was casual but had a skill curve. These other games have rather steep skill curves imo that are too steep for BF.
The BF player needs the tools to fight on land, sea and in the air. Making all those facets too complicated, changes the BF formula too much as now they need to specialize, and practice to get good in certain areas. That's not BF to me. The BF4 intro snippet captures what I mean. Where it's one character, jumping into all the roles as required.

BF4 is anything but casual these days and has not been for a while. If one stealth jet pilot was slightly better at turning no one on the other team could have any air power. That’s not really casual or fun.

Helicopters are invincible in BF4 because the last patch for it nerfed the SOFLAM into dust, leaving the RPG the only viable tool against it.
Turning was a huge thing in BF4, and it was not easy to do, so naturally the pilot who is better at maintaining the optimal turn deserves to win. It was also not just looping, there was many ways to twist the dogfight into your favor if the enemy pilot doesn't anticipate where your trail is going.
I can tell you one thing, it's far better than losing a dogfight just because the enemy aircraft is better at literally everything yours can do. That is not fun. - 3 years ago

@CPT_GASLIGHT But it's not constant circling though... And in 2042, you'd be lucky to even circle twice with the passive radar missile being the way that it is. It takes 1 hit from them before your engine is damaged and your turn rate is massively impacted. Once you see smoke, it's game over, get that parachute ready.

It is. You can try to do other defensive maneuvers but it always just comes down to 310 circling. That’s why I liked the attack jets more but you have to rely on your stealth pilot not sucking.
I actually never had a problem with active air missiles. 2 missiles aren’t enough to destroy your jet and the repair system automatically repairs any damaged parts.

@CPT_GASLIGHT That's because Active Radar missiles alert the pilot of the incoming missile far sooner. Passive Radar missiles alert the pilot once it's too late. That time difference results in a damaged engine and the enemy pilot can just gun you down. Game over, because Passive Radar missiles locks on way too easily than it should, you don't even need to aim your crosshair at your target, literally fire it and it does the rest, there should be some skill involved where the Pilot actually has to keep the enemy aircraft in the reticle, a circular cone perhaps. The system repair helps vs Active Radar missiles but not verse Passive Radar missiles, because Passive Radar missiles can be fired sooner than Active Radar missiles and only two are needed to destroy a Jet.
Well, for me dogfighting in BF3 and BF4 was far more varied, it was never just circling when it was skilled pilots versing each other. Imo, the circling is still better than what we have now even though it's not ideal, it was balanced.
