Dice, you didn't fix it. I don't think you ever will.
I feel like since they started "redoing" the maps people have stopped talking about this, but even on the new maps, there is a serious lack of cover. On EVERY map. Take Flashpoint, for example. There is some "cover" but its centered around objectives, and even then is sparce. All around the objectives, including in between, there is very little cover. Attempt to run between cover or across roads especially (Best example: third sector) and you will die.
Compare that to Al Marj Encampment from BFV. If you aren't familiar, look up the map on the wiki and find the objective layout picture. See all the buildings? The walls? The grass? From a 2042 player's eyes it looks like HEAVEN. Even in the dreaded canyon section there is cover all over. And on the right side from the American Team's POV there is an area with less cover but guess what- You don't have to pass through it, and if you are being sniped on from it, you can duck down in the area that actually does have cover.
I know Dice and EA are moving away from this game, but I wish we could have maps like this.
For some reason I feel like the creators of 2042 have shied away from close-combat in all of the maps. A few buildings here and there or a warehouse doesn't quite do it. Why not a full map in a city?? I know there was even a previous community forum post about player support for a metro map.
What I am saying is, the remade maps still suck. We still need more cover. Don't think that this is ok.
To some players, who might prefer a more lazy, campy, snipy type of gameplay (encouraged by the lack of cover, unfortunately), don't think close quarters combat excludes DMRs or Bolt Action Rifles or LMGs from gameplay. CQ maps can include angles for snipers or LMGs, and in fact I encourage that to a degree. Al Marj was a perfect example of this, too. You could sit slightly behind your team in the canyon section with a mg42 or a sniper and watch for enemies about to shoot at your teammates. (Teamwork always makes games more fun.) If you were skilled enough you could do cq sniping, which is a challenge, but is fun.
There are only a few WEAK and Lazy excuses I can think of why DICE would not implement these kinds of features in a map if they made another one.
-128 player gameplay might be to large for a CQ map
-2042's engagement distances are to messed up
First of all, if 128 player gameplay is too much for a smaller map, WHY DID YOU INCLUDE IT IN THE GAME???? That doesn't matter though, just make your new map 64 player only. Problem solved.
Second of all, engagement distances are Dice's problem. If they would be a problem for a CQ map, then you should probably just... idk.... fix engagement distances in the first place???
Thank you for reading my rant.
