I am not a fan of the EA game changers but I dislike the specialists. I think that the old class system was better and one of the unique selling points of the game. It also added to the game. In my opinion a shooter needs some predictability which adds to the skill ceiling and experience. And with classes you knew which kind of weapons and gadgets a certain enemy soldier had at their disposal. Now everyone can have every gun and every gadget, so you never know what you are dealing with when engaging an opponent. Also it has become way more difficult to differentiate fractions.
I always enjoyed having a certain role for the team. When playing the scout I used my spotting tools and my spawn beacon along with the class-bound rifles. Now everyone can be everything which leads to total chaos and unpredictability. Things I do not like. 2042 lost so much depth in my opinion. It felt great mastering a class and make the best out of the tools your class had. It added some challenge.
I disagree with the community. Battlefield has a strong core community that would be willing to play if there was a decent game. But instead EA tries to get new players by copying other titles. Players that do not care about the series in the long term. This approach is doomed to fail. They have built a strong brand identity with Battlefield - you cannot simply change that and expect people to like that. It will neither satisfy your old customers nor a younger generation.
I do not care about how Battlefield 2042 does in terms of launch performance compared to Battlefield 4, etc. It is in an unacceptable state and on top of that has much less potential. Just because other titles had a rough launch it does not justify doing it over and over again.
A server browser also belongs in the game. A majority does not want skill based match making. We want to get on a server with people having different skill levels, we want to play our favorite maps, etc. And despite their attempt to do matchmaking matches are not more balanced. Give people back their server browser and let them decide which map they want to play.
I don't understand why "everyone can be everything and do everything" is a problem. The purpose of the game is to to win the objective. You adapt to the tools you have at hands. Why would it be any difference that I got sniped by Angel than a "Sniper" class player? Where is the chaos or unpredictability behind a sniper glint? What is your "depth" in a battlefield game? I see people working together in game, reviving and giving ammo. They do the things that they want to/supposed to do based on the gear/peaks they have. Why bother that it should be a Class or not? It's just a skin of some player to use it's ability.
I think the game is decent with it's current state and the time it had from the launch. Time change and community changes. Lots of the people I played 10 years on BF3 and BF4 are playing different games. So are the younger generations. It can't use the exact same concept 10 years and think it would work on the new generations. And if you don't simply change, how would you know that people would like it or not.
Sure the past launch is not an excuse for the current launch. But I don't think the quality is as bad as people make it sounds like. I and many other have been enjoying the game. It's a good game and it has a lot of potentials to be a great game.
A server browser is useless unless they disable the auto-matchmaking after each round. Because you will leave the server after you played the last few minutes of a round that you waited 10 minute to get into from a server browser. I agree with a server browser like in BFV, but they have to remove the mechanics that you leave server after each round.
- CPU_UK4 years agoSeasoned Ace@bitebullet2142 Because it promotes lone-wolf, not squad play. Also, why can Sundance fly around with a Recoiless (isn't that heavy?) and still take the same damage as Dozer in blast armour? The game logic makes no sense.

@CPU_UK If you want to get rid of lone-wolf, remove the sniper. They are the single most lone-wolf element in every BF. They do nothing or little to contribute to capturing the objectives.
And if you don't understand yet, squad-play comes from player, not from gears. I played lots of hours in previous BF which I never got revived or supported in a single round. For me, the saying of "old class promotes squad play" is just BS. Tbh, got more revived in 2042 than in the previous titles. I think people start to understand how they should play the game. See, that has nothing to do with "Class", but to do with player.
If you refer to realism in a game, then you probably shouldn't be playing any game.
