Feedback - Make Solo/Coop playable offline

While I know that the focus for feedback right now is maps, I hope the devs do not forget making bots playable offline.

I am a player which lives in a country that has a very unstable internet infrastructure. While my internet is fast most of the time, sometimes I get cut off or have insane ping which makes BF2042 nothing more than a paperweight during those times, as even when playing "Solo" I am still suffering from rubberbanding and lag issues. I am pretty sure players like me would like the option to still be able to play against bots in cases like mine where there is no or intermittent internet connectivity.

Usually, campaigns fulfilled this role but there is no campaign in this title. Don't get me wrong, I do like the bots and prefer them over campaigns but campaigns were at least playable regardless of internet connection. I don't see a reason why it can't be offline either. The bots are not really smart so there's probably little to no performance impact running bots locally, heck bots in Battlefield 2 which are smarter and more dynamic run perfectly fine even on older hardware. Progression requires internet connection, sure, but that's a non-issue either. Disable progression when not connected to the internet, enable it back when the player finally gets connection again.

I do not expect this to be addressed soon, but I hope the devs keep it in mind and eventually implement it one day. That's my feedback for now, thanks for reading.

  • @Freelancery if they disabled progression like you said I don't see why they couldn't implement it.

The harder thing would be trying to get it to work with some form of offline progression and synching the offline data with the online profile when you do get a connection, but a lot of games have this, and you aren't asking for this more difficult aspect anyway.

I would say if they were to add offline bots then they should really upgrade them a bit, make them sprint from cover to cover more, scout out enemies or the next location / cover to sprint to before moving, move together in squads. Just some simple behaviour changes would go a long way to making them look / play better - right now there are times where you see 20 bots jogging slowly whilst looking around in random directions in open fields looking like idiots. Hopefully they improve the AI over time since they appear so frequently in matches.

Also, they should really add some basic AI instructions for the vehicles they don't currently use. My understanding is they don't use the fighter planes in BF2042, but they will use the old propeller planes in BF42 portal mode, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

@Ga-Knomboe_Boy I agree with your suggestions. Simplest change they could do is allow bots to sprint so that they 'feel' more like players. I've heard that they hired a new AI programmer so hopefully that means we see improvements to bots and we finally get an offline mode.

You are soo right, i also experience bad connection issues and it frustrates me to not be able to enjoy the game offline against bots, i still don't understand why it's not already an option...
