The game is currently "optimized" to run on systems with 8 threads so the compatibility list could be expanded to include as many system specs as possible, for greater sales volume. The downside of this approach is that state of the art gaming rigs are not going to be adequately utilized, and performance at the lower end of the spectrum is going to flat out suck. So, everybody can play, but nobody will be particularly thrilled about it.
IM0, the only way forward is to recalibrate the engine for a minimum of 12 threads, and provide refunds to users whose systems subsequently become incompatible. Fortunately, modern 16 thread gaming CPU's are relatively affordable and easy to obtain.
