Why do I think BF 2042 won't last over 1 year? EA has not figured out a way to monetize this game, as players get upset to have to buy stuff and go crazy if you can buy to level up, and the games are sold at the same price they were sold 30 years ago. And when EA did the "All hands on deck" they burned through their profit margin and thus at one year they will be lucky to break even as taking the entire Dice team off the other projects created expenses that are difficult to quantify yet rest assured that it hurt ROI on the other projects, and thus cost everyone money and time than was originally allocated.
So just enjoy the year of BF 2042 while you can, as most of these franchises are going to fall apart until the entire gaming industry figures out a way to monetize the games in a way that pleases both players and stock investors...and we are not to that point yet, so there will be a lot of franchise casualties along the way unfortunately. To be blunt, we are ALL at fault...

@DeepSixxxxThe player base is last to be blamed for the state of the game. Battlefield used to be all about classes and division of equipment with battle roles.

You see, Battlefield doesn`t offer a highly competitive game mode. Something that would keep the audience in emotional suspense.
Modern Warfare has got Free to Play Warzone BR mode.
CS: GO is a highly competitive game with 5vs5 mode. Valve managed to capitalize on the skin market for weapons. Additionally game went F2P in order to survive on the market. Even Danger Zone BR mode was implemented.HALO has got F2P elements.
PUBG is free to play on the Steam platform.
Apex Legends is for free on the Origin platform.
Squad, ARMA, and Insurgency cost just a few coins. The games are closer to mil-sims than fully arcade Battlefield nowadays.
Valorant has become a new important IP.Warface is free to play.
World War 3 that resembles old refractor engine BF`s is Free to Play now.Tarkov is probably one of the best mil-sim FPS on the market.
Ohh boi. Fortnite and Team Fortress are F2P.

There is not much space for maneuverability for the BF franchise in such a competitive environment. Battlefield needs a solid launch with a competitive F2P model to stay relevant. Just making Conquest or TDM skill-based won`t save the game with Legacy Features. The quality of BF2042 is similar to F2P games and some of them even do better in many aspects. The weather for unpolished games without content is not good any longer in the first-person shooter market.
I have like 5 other Battlefield`s that I enjoy in many ways. For now, I wait for more content and bug fixes for BF2042. I honestly doubt that the game will be taken out of misery without a solid core gameplay rework at least in Conquest and free-to-play competitive mode. I consider previous Battlefields gameplay-wise and content-wise light years ahead of BF2042 and that`s one of the main problems. The devs have not recognized a major shift in the gaming market.- 4 years ago@Twordy @DeepSixxxxThe player base is last to be blamed for the state of the game. All valid points, I agree...players last to blame, but not blameless. I'm guessing players get emotionally attached to video game simulations, as a means to escape real life (simulation?). Thus emotions run high when expectations are not met, to the point where it becomes life altering for many players. Unlike a movie where two people spend $60 bucks and yet if the movie is trash, nobody seems to ask the movie studio for a refund. Emotional attachment is not there in the movie entertainment biz like the video game entertainment biz, perhaps because it is not life altering like a failing franchise that a person has been playing from say age 12 to age 22, that gives them an escape from base reality and a way to de-stress from the self-inflicted complexities of modern life while experiencing some social tribalism...
And your game list is correct, yet I'd have to say Halo currently is unplayable until the anti-cheat is implemented as two nights ago I just watched Lucid on Twitch getting wall hacked and aim-bot killed every other game, and he would even go back and show the viewers the replays and it was sad and hilarious that players pay real money for these mods so they can move their name up a virtual leader board to impress friends??? BF 2042 might get the same wave of cheaters once players get what they want, K/D ratios and leaderboards...so enjoy the game before then...HA- Twordy4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@DeepSixxxxI may go on and on with the list. Each of the games mentioned offers some form of online service with free-to-play elements except for Escape from Tarkov.
Perhaps at some level, I might be emotionally attached to BF as a series.
I am sure that BF2042 is not a full-fledged ready-for-launch product. The game has been advertised as a complete experience on many levels. Instead, the new BF feels like a concept project with unpolished mechanics. I cannot find with mates in the final game any "promised legacy experience" shown in trailers and mentioned in early statements. The only phrase I heard coming from my mates - "buddy, it is not a good Battlefield" I should probably stop at this point and never come back to BF2042. It is such a shame to see the BF series facing the possibility of ceasing to exist except for the mobile version.
Battlefield used to be about 5 to 12 guys sitting in Ventrilo or Teamspeak waiting to rock in the game. The new BF iteration is primarily a solo experience.
