Guide of joystick settings for Jets anyone?

Does anyone know if there is a good guide for Joystick settings for jets?

Or does anyone have some tips for the settings?

I'm using a Thrustmaster T16000 M.

Although I played quite some flight sims way back in the days (Fleet defender, European Air War, Jane's WW2 Fighters, Falcon 4.0, IL-2, just to name some) I somehow struggle with the jets in BF2042. I can't seem to find any joystick stetting which let's me steer those jets without crashing myself all the time (let alone even fighting others). I can't find a setting which makes flying "feel right".

  • Wait, how did you get a HOTAS to sync up with the game?  I was in the understanding that using a HOTAS won't work?  are you using Joytokey or some software version?

    that being said, I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and its a direct connection to 2042 with no software program used for conversion.

    In my controller menu > Controller Schemes, I have everything set to custom.  After fiddling around with settings on my end of things, I found the only area that can be seen for a difference is in the actual Joystick settings where there's only 3 options to set.   I have both deadzone's set to 0 and the Input Threshold set to 100% for both jets and helicopters.  This is apparent for me because that also directly correlates to aiming and zoom aim sensitivity, its easier to zero in on targets with guns that way.  I also did a looping test and there is no difference in time when looping around if you set your input threshold at 0 or 50 or 100%.

    so really in the end its up to you when it comes to your settings and feel.

    if you're using joytokey software, the game thinks you're using an xbox controller, so you really need to dial in your fine tuning when it comes to the Controller settings side of things.  you may also have to clear out your keybindings when it comes to the "Xbox Controller" as well.

    there's also an area in the settings which will have "Helicopter sensitivity control" and "Pilot sensitivity control"  I set mine all the way to 100.   And also the Vehicle 3rd person Field of View = max

    Here's a good video to kinda go off of.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUU1F5r-X8U&ab_channel=YuriyD.TV

  • @SharpGoblinI’m not convinced there is a “feel right”. The game didn’t have JS support on release, and many don’t even work with 2042. My old and worn out Logitech 3DO works, but my Saitek X52 doesn’t. I’ve found flying to be underwhelming at best. For helos at least you can turn flight assist off, which helps that immensely. Sorry I have no tricks for you, but can commiserate with your experience.

    @ATFGunr @NehkidGramma84

    Thanks guys.

    I don't have a HOTAS set up, only the stick. And that connects directly. I'll try with your settings. Thanks @NehkidGramma84 .

    Maybe switching to a logitech extreme 3d pro might help too. I liked the Saitek Cyborg 3d back then. Is the logitech a bit like this one? If I rememer correctly logitech baught saitek a some point and the former saitek sticks a logitech now. So could the extreme 3d be somewhat the new cyborg 3d?

    @SharpGoblin The 3D Pro is tried and true. They tend to wear out, I’m on my third one over about the last 15 years and that was with a long break for Saitek. You’re right, Saitek was bought by Logitech a few years back, I haven’t had any of the newer branded stuff from them. 3D Pro is known for drift over time, again I’m talking years for that, but not many years 😉 It’s simple, and works, but it’s not fancy. I use the Logitech profile programming for mine, and with the driver windows will recognize it and you can do calibrations. The software is old, won’t work with G series software but TBH it works fine for me. Doesn’t suck a lot of resources anyways. It’s just fine for a game like 2042, and isn’t really expensive. I’d never use it in Flight Sim or anything, not nearly enough keys. It’s sort of poorly balanced weight wise, many a time have I been overly excited in a dogfight and picked it right up or tilted it over lol. 2042 won’t work with HoTAs gear, it’s been discussed in the forums so seems to be the way it is.
  • @SharpGoblin WOOT! Thats awesome to hear! Also make sure you have your flight stick inverted when pulling down to go up lol. Maybe that is why you're crashing so much? :D
