Hi, a quick dip in from PixieFatherOf, firstly I guess I beat you by a few years, I am now nearer 70 than I am 60, scary.  Anyway, yes I had an Amiga & a BBC B I think it was, very good machines for the time. Sorry but I know for a fact that I have slowed down & now I find there are so many controls to remember that I get wiped out, crash etc......     while attempting to remember said controls are activate them & how many times have my memory banks got it wrong, a fair few.  I am not frail or disabled in any way but old age will take its toll in various ways & affect different people in different ways, I totally agree with your comments around "real world tactics", & to a degree thats why I quite like some of the sniper games. But I love returning to the original Doom & thought Half-Life was so well put together, the very early Battlefield's were also to my liking. Must go now nurse is here & then its time for my afternoon nap hahaha.

No doubt we all slow down with age.  In fact, reflexes can begin to slow for some as early as your mid 20's IIRC.  ....but again, none of that is a factor in why I and the rest of my online friends (most who are in their 40s - 60s) don't like games like BF2042.  It simply boils down to not liking the whimsical / arcade direction EA / DICE has taken BF.  .....nothing to do with not being able to compete or having difficulty remembering button mapping, etc.  Quite the opposite in fact as many of us play games like DayZ on PS4/5 that is quite complex in that respect.

I get your point though but also think some developers do a better job with their UIs than others which can really help mitigate confusion and resulting frustration over what button or menu to navigate.  For me personally, I think games and franchises like Battlefield have actually become too dumbed down these days for my liking.  BF2042 feels more like parkour than a Battlefield game.  Key elements that defined the IP have been either been watered down or simply removed.

My friends and I are actually kind of jazzed about ARMA Reforger and the eventual release of ARMA 4 on console.  Unfortunately, we have to wait for it to hit PS5 but that will be the game we will be playing moving forward once it does.  We currently have gone back to playing CoD MW 2019 (Hardcore mode only), Insurgency Sandstorm co-op, BF Portal (private, custom hardcore games I have created) and DayZ.   We are also very eager for upcoming games as well like Six Days in Fallujah. ....some in our group are vets of the period.

I do hope EA / DICE realize their mistakes and make the necessary changes to correct their mistakes but I have a feeling they will be too stubborn to let go of their vision.  .....much the same as Ubisoft has been doing with Ghost Recon, etc.  I don't know what drives this stubbornness but it will be their undoing unless they decide to change.
