I think that Hazard Zone lacks proper substance and depths for it to be a viable long-term game mode.
So you are very right that it would need a massive overhaul and improvement still to be worth much in the BF2042 world.
Matter of fact, I find it not at all to be Battlefield worthy.
So would not mind if it got axed totally from the franchise. If EA still wants to do something like BR Hazard Zone with super hero specialists in fancy (paid for) costumes, then make it as a separate spinoff game product instead. Right now it appears to inflict more damage than good, due to all the other compromises we now have as result in the more classic Battlefield areas of BF2042 due to this.
I still think Hazard Zone is the game mode BF2042 was originally designed around, before DICE switched gears halfway through development and shoe horned Conquest and Breakthrough back into the game.
The problem with Hazard zone is that it exists, as part of a Battlefield main title, just like Firestorm in BFV
