Just like they renamed the flying transports to Gunships, the Wildcat should be renamed to Housecat ! They even usually stay back at home (aka the spawn). At the early days they would be truly Wild and go to the front with the rest of the team to hunt prey in both the air and ground !
For real lol.
Almost all my deaths in the Wildcat are at the nearest point to the main spawn. Heli's are just free to camp spawn points. I've lost all good faith in this current incompetent team over at Dice. I'm sure there's a lot of talent concerning the actual Developers, but there's something going on with their management or something.
I'm pretty sure the thought behind Sundance being in the game was just so they could make an "impressive trailer". The one where they break through the window, does a roll, and shoot some enemies. Then they proceeded to add Tornadoes and flying bags to every map... so many things revolving around one stupid game breaking decision. My point is this team has ZERO CLUE when it comes to balancing and how things should function. Air vehicles should fight each other as a primary function, then the reward for winning their fight is poking at ground vehicles. They SHOULDN'T be farming Heavy armor and Infantry whenever and wherever they please. That's just pathetic game design and balancing. The baffling thing is, who are they even catering to?! The 2042 population is not that healthy to begin with, then how many are just exclusively Heli nerds? Are those the whales in this game or something? The guys that no life this game and have been at max level now for several months? I doubt it.
Combined warfare is BFs biggest strength but also its biggest weakness. Dice have never found the right formula and I think that now, new players just give up (it is stupid) and many of the BF-vets are just getting tired of seeing the same issues over and over.
- RaginSam2 years agoSeasoned Ace@cso7777 It was definitely an issue in BF5 as well, I skipped BF1 but played every BF game since BFBC2, and I’m sure it’s been a persistent issue this whole time. I’m just so burned out with air vehicles being untouchable. It’s not good game design.
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@RaginSam The stationary AA guns in both 1 and V were decent and when manned could pretty easily defeat air. Not every time mind you, some pilots are just good, but usually. Since they don’t give us stationaries in 2042, the only option is the Wildcat and as you’ve said, it’s nerfed into the ground. All we’re asking is a viable counter Dice!

You could capture a point and then defend that area with a stationary AA gun. That's what good game design looks like. It was an extremely boring and tedious task to sit there and wait for a plane to actually get close enough to shoot it down, but it was at least an effective tool. What would usually happen is that pilot would avoid that part of the map. Not the perfect solution, but more then we have now it feels like.
Everything that was effective in 2042 has been nerfed or just taken away. The class system limiting who can carry stingers was a huge misstep. Nerfing the Rorsch into oblivion against any vehicle. The nerfs to the Wildcat...
They did add that new turret to Reclaimed, but it's in a pretty awkward spot and still can get out gunned by a heli if you just blink at the wrong time. I also noticed that helis can lock onto you before they're even visible on your screen or through structures somehow. It also shoots the slowest projectiles, seriously It's like paint ball velocity. It's just really bad game design forcing someone to sit still in one spot, just to stop 1-2 people from completely dominating the entire lobby. Waiting on them to make a big mistake, which even a slightly above average pilot won't put themselves in that situation.
- 2 years ago@cso7777 Well said. The game that got real close to a perfect combined arms formula was BF4, which pretty much worked well on non-urban maps (for example Siege of Shanghai the SRAW and IGLA were ineffective against decent AH pilots that survive the one rare hit some1 gets in with SRAW).
