High explosive rounds??

Can anyone explain to me why a high explosive round from a main battle tank is not a 1 shot kill on a jet? Just being able to land a shot on a jet should be reason enough for it to be a 1 shot kill. But it's a HIGH EXPLOSIVE ROUND! From a tank! How does a jet fly away from that?? It's not likely I'm going to land a second round
