Hit Detection & Vehicle Physics

I've been a tanker since Battlefield 3, and have not been able to effectively use tanks in 2042. As a Top Gunner with the mounted .50 Cal, or even using CoAx LMG and HMG, I can't get credit for any of my hits (even when I see blood or dust spatter from my target). About 1 in 6 hits actually registers, even on stationary targets in the Solo servers.

Additionally, when I drive the tanks (or really any vehicle that should have substantial weight), running over a stump or minor obstacle, it causes the tank to go way up into the air, and seemingly float down like a balloon. Traction is seemingly non-existent on all surfaces like dirt or tarmac, and feels like it is all ice.

Is this isolated, or are others experiencing the exact same things?

  • @murray218 Soft targets aren't so soft is what I have noticed. Not sure if everyone is running the body armor specialist or what. I guess the maps being devoid of any meaningful cover requires that since the maps are so open infantry would be free kills otherwise.

Tanks and all land vehicles do feel floaty. It is weird. All the vehicles feel floaty even the choppers (no pun intended). Physics really could use some work to add a proper weighted feel.

@GRiPSViGiL But even when their infantry is up-armored you get a hit marker (sometimes) that indicates that. Having infantry soak up 20-30 rounds of .50 Cal with maybe 3 actual hits that “count” is not all conducive to being a tanker. BF4 was perfect, and now this makes me want to just abandon the role…
  • @murray218 weird, maybe go back to the original BF3 and see tanks were just as, if not more floaty than BF2042 and would bounce about horribly over the slightest rock or pebble.
They tried improving it in BF4 but it wasn't that much better than BF3.
