The netcode in 2042 took multiple steps backwards compared to the netcode in Battlefield 1.
DICE hired an outside contractor to code the netcode for Battlefield 1. After Battlefield 1 his contract ended and he no longer maintains the netcode.
The netcode has been going downhill with Battlefield V and 2042 because the contractor who created the netcode no longer works for EA/DICE.
