The attacking team brings lances to the objectives, plants them to "destroy the data" and guards them while they are destroying the data. You need a lance there until the objective is complete, and it will disappear from the map. You then rinse and repeat at other objectives.
Defenders prevent the attackers from planting, if planted they can disarm and stop the destruction. The dropped lance will stay at spot it was dropped for a little bit before it is returned to the attacker's spawn.
Teams swap sides after all the obj's are destroyed or time runs out.
Now the 2nd team has to destroy all the objectives faster (if first attacking team destroys them all) or they have to destroy more of the data than the first team did.
What really happens: 2-3 players know what they are doing, and the other 15 play like they are playing team deathmatch or they just camp/snipe.

You did not mention that almost everyone is spamming explosives. - 2 years agoIn my opinion, the best mode BY FAR. IFF the teams know what they are doing. I hope this mode will stay and not get removed again after 1-2 weeks.
We had the most intense matches in this mode. But you have to be lucky to have an opposing team that also has players that communicate well and play in a coordinated manner. The worst thing was one player that was grabbing the lance and then using MacKay grappling on some roof with the enemy team unable to kill him for some reason. So we had to play the match with one lance only. I think we still won in the end, but only because the enemy team was even worse.
I think it's a prerequisite to play this with friends. We were always 4 of us as a full squad using TeamSpeak. I definitely would not play this on my own This is true for every Battlefield title for all modes -- except warmup playing a few rounds of Team Deathmatch -- but especially for such a small mode where bad players camping somewhere at the edge of the map can completely destroy the experience and kill the fun.
For us, this is THE infantry mode which BF2042 is sorely missing as I would not count Team Deathmatch as this has no objective that needs collaboration to achieve. Let's hope this one stays (at least via Portal or in some kind of rotation to be available every other week at least)- 2 years ago@ForumUser
Agreed
Shutdown should become a permanent mode for 2042.
It was by far the most successful of the experimental modes.- VOLBANKER_PC2 years agoSeasoned Ace
Team Deathmatch often turns out to be Team Campmatch in my experience
