If they would have stuck with the actual BF-experience without these specialists, a more darker/gritty tone to the maps then I think the backlash would have been much less because maybe the game would actually be a bit more fun or balanced. I loved the whole nameless soldier part of BF which gave it that unique atmosphere that other games didn't have but they threw that away.

Indeed @Daeyon-be ,
Everything would have gone so much better if EA/DICE had just stuck to simply making...
...a Battlefield game! 👍

I kinda feel like they peaked with Battlefield 1, every title up until BF 1 eventually felt pretty solid even if it was a bit buggy at launch.
I know a lot of folks like Battlefield V but in my opinion they whiffed on that one too (albeit not as bad as 2042) Which is crazy considering how the franchise started in the WW2 era but I sort of feel like they blew it in ways I don't want to go into at the moment. It's been talked about ad nauseum anyway.
From BF1942 on through BF1 (except for Heroes and Hardline) they stuck with a pretty solid formula and even though I wasn't crazy about all the design decisions and innovations I still loved the franchise. BF1 wasn't even one of my favorite titles as I didn't really care for the WW1 setting but it WAS a solid and beautifully made title. No for me the BF1942 through BF4 times were some the of the most fun I've had in this series and I'd really like to get THAT fun back.
I (maybe foolishly on my part, I admit) and it seems a lot of other BF fans/veterans were expecting an updated and modernized shooter progressing along the same lines of Bf2-BF4 genre.
Instead, we got BF2042 which is a title that feels like it is having an identity crisis, trying to appeal to everyone and ultimately appealing to no one.
Pretty much sums up my feelings too.
They took a winning formula, tore it up and produced BF2042 which as you say is neither one thing or the other.
They have changed the formula so much it is very difficult to imagine how this title can be turned round.
And judging by the quantity / quality of the updates received so far, I am not sure they have either the willingness or resources to even try to turn it round.
I am shocked it has taken all this time to produce the first attempt at a recognisable scoreboard.
The other missing basic features, coupled with the continued silence regarding a roadmap leaves me feeling pessimistic as to BF2042's future, if it even has one. ☹️
