I mostly see this working for Portal and not the main game.
- UP_Hawxxeye3 years agoLegend@RaginSam yeah it is especially important in portal where people participating in some servers are communities of a sort.
For example I could say that I am part of the community of an Air Superiority server. In such places I often feel like I have the desire to greet everyone when joining or leaving as well as maybe have a technical discussion with people who have questions or to get tips from those who seem to fly better than I do- RaginSam3 years agoSeasoned Ace@UP_Hawxxeye That makes a lot of sense and I definitely see it working great for private servers like you said.
Someone else mentioned talking to others while the server fills up and I think that’s definitely another plus for having all chat. Reminds me of playing 24/7 Metro servers.- UP_Hawxxeye3 years agoLegend@RaginSam Considering that the thing that keeps me into 2042 is the social experience of talking with my platoon while playing, giving more chances to communicate with other players should make the game more engaging.

All chat with 128 players is a lot. There’s a good chance people in every single match are going to spam the chat. In BFV there were several people that literally didn’t play and just typed the entire game.
Let’s say you do mute the other team, you’re still going to see your teams responses. That’s going to clutter up chat for important information possibly. I just don’t see a real good reason for All Chat in the main game.
All chat should be a server option in Portal. Nothing more. All chat worked in rented servers for a few reasons. First, they were typically moderated and had admins on. Second reason being there were less players. The final reason is since servers were typically ran by community’s it was a social experience. You got to know other players and there was a certain expectation and respect for the server.
It makes a ton of sense for Portal and private servers. It doesn’t seem like a good idea for the base game.
