@CyberDymeI think it is worth clarifying that all in game 'hardware' will be free to all ie, the Specialists themselves are at no additional cost. It is only extra cosmetic items that are 'exclusive' to paid Battlepasses.
Well that is actually the itchy point @Trokey66.
I cannot say that I am 100% absolute certain, as its also contradicting to what some EA reps shared like 6 months back. But reallity now is what they present to the public and what is written on the 3 different license options they are promoting in all online stores now for pre-ordering: So the same setup/conditions for all 3 platform, PC, xbox and playstation. And we have the standard baseline edition (or actually two of them) one for the old gen consoles and one for the new gen consoles. The old console version is approx $10 cheaper than the new gen version. (64 players vs 128 players, is the EA justification for that...?)
Next you have the GOLD EDITION and the ULTIMATE EDITION.
And for these 'higher end' editions they clearly write more is contained by default, beyond the base game, which is how they refer to it for the cheapest edition license:
So from here, it is obvious that the Specialists are linked to the seasons, and thereby to the battlepasses that you need to buy for access to each season that you want to take part in. So yes, you get access to all the baseline play with the baseline edition of the game pack. But it strongly hints towards that you one way or the other need to buy the Battle Passes to get access to the Specialists!
Maybe you can grind your way to qualify for those specialist someway in the game? I dont know, as its not been shared yet by EA how this really works in the new game.
But their monetization model here does not hint towards that being so.
One might say the same when looking back at Gold, Silver and Bronze battlepacks in BF4? Like who would want to pay for any of those, but still some do. Likewise with the Assault-, Support, Engineer- or Recon- kits. While most veterans we didnt even care much to open them as we earned them through the gameplay alone.
The judge is still out on the BF2042 payment models I think, until we get more proper details from EA on the connected game components/mechanics...?
Personally I would prefer a Premium one time payment and then be done with it. And definitely no pay-to-win schemes. But that is maybe too much to ask for in these modern times???

@CyberDymeIn BF1 you don’t get access to i.e. the Fedorov Avtomat unless you buy the expansion it’s in. You can’ just grind your way to it. So locking important game stuff behind a pay wall happened in BF1. I don’t like it but there’s nothing to do about it, I guess, apart from not buying the game in the first place.
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace@VOLBANKER_PC But that was a different model, premium/paid DLC. It was the same with BF3 & 4.
- VOLBANKER_PC5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Trokey66 That’s true! I forgot
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace@CyberDyme They can still be linked to the seasons but NOT the Battlepasses.
I am 99.9% certain that no 'hardware' is behind a pay wall but I will stand to be corrected although that is doubtful.- 5 years ago

But so far, all we hear and read from EA, then you have to buy the Battle Pass to 'pay for to' get access to the next season. So maybe wrong, but I take it as implicit that we have to buy the battle passes to access the seasons ahead and thereby also the Specialists being released in them.
I much compare it so far to the DLCs in BF4, where you needed to pay for them to get access to the weapons/gadgets linked directly to each of those DLCs. Like several good assault rifles, like: F2000, the Bulldog, AR160 and the L85A2. Also the MTAR-21 carbine, the DAO-12 shotgun, the AWS and the RPK LMGs, the MPX and MP7 PDWs, and the L115, the GOL Magnum and CS5 sniper rifles. And was it the Deagle 44 and the Unica 6 handguns?
You also had the AA mine and the UCAV which I think was locked behind a certain DLC purchase?
I am not judging it. Just trying to make sense of the limited info that EA have shared so far on their license/payment model for this next game. As this thread is highlighting: Its astounding that EA expect people to flock on top of each other to pre-order based on nothing but a few minutes of video feed and then a vague 10 bullet points product info sticker. :o)

People are buying regardless of the amount of information. Same as with the GPU market, people are buying the 3080 TI. Blind faith and stupidity.
- 5 years ago@CyberDyme This is exactly what I am talking about.. this is way too confusing! What I would have done is:
Xbox 1 Preorder (Standard, gold, ultimate)
XsX Preorder (Standard, Gold, Ultimate) - Automatically previous gen compatible.
