@fragChowder For example, if you currently have the game in the EA APP and now buy Battlefield 2042 on Steam, you will start from the beginning regardless of your previous subscriptions, because you will be assigned a different Key/Customer ID on Steam or another platform.
I don't know how it works with the Battlefield Pass, but I know that if I had an EA Play subscription, the game saves remain even after it expires/cancels. So if you want to be sure that your game progress will remain, just buy Battlefield 2042 on the same platform and on the same account where you currently have the pass and don't mess around with it.
To sum up
If you are currently playing Battlefield 2042 in the EA APP on an EA Play or EA Play PRO subscription (the game key you downloaded when purchasing a temporary EA Play or EA Play Pro subscription was assigned to your EA APP account), do not change the platform & Account.
On Steam, you will start from the beginning because, as I mentioned earlier, you will be assigned a different product key and a different cloud.
So if you don't want to lose your progress in the game, buy the game permanently on the same platform you are currently playing on.
If i Helped please give me XP.
