Infantry-focused legacy maps we neeeeed in 2042

In earlier Battlefield titles there were maps that had great infantry-focused gameplay and generally good balance with vehicles: People loved them and would be great additions as legacy maps.

There were other great ones that were more vehicle focused like Caspian Border, Firestorm and Gulf of Oman, but 2042 is extraordinarily lacking in infantry combat maps.

Battlefield 4

  • Flood Zone - One of the most balanced maps in BF history. Spawn lock was extremely rare.
  • Pearl Market

Battlefield 3

  • Strike at Karkhand
  • Seine Crossing
  • Grand Bazaar

Note: I have avoided the meatgrinders of Metro and Locker, but they could be argued as the most popular. They just seem a bit overdone and I would rather have something else added to 2042.

Did I miss anything really great?

They don't want to bring BF4 maps, so I guess no Peal Market and no Operation Locker, even though they would be welcome additions if you judge by their popularity back in 'the day'. If they could bring BF4 maps, then I'd vote for replacing the BF3 version of Caspian with the version for the second assault DLC of BF4 (because this one is better IMO, but it is not 'infantry focused', so it does not belong in 'your' list).

For infantry focused one out of BF3 my votes go for:

Metro (even then the BF4 version is better!), not because I personally would want to play it, but because it is without a doubt THE infantry only map that comes to mind most readily and it was and still is very popular and running 24/7 on those older titles. It just is not fun at all in the 64 player version (for most people -- some really seem to enjoy this chaos) and therefore would need a 32 player version that cannot be mixed in with other maps in a rotation.

My favorites would be either 'Epicenter' or the pretty much underrated 'Talah Market' (or actually all of the Aftermath DLC maps of BF3, maybe with 'Markaz Monolith' being the one I liked least of those 4).

EDIT: now that I think about it, most of those maps were also played best on 48 player servers as also for them, 64 are too much. We had a 48 and 64 player server and I played many matches on both and I can say without a doubt that almost always the 48 player matches were much better. At least according to my aging brain. But I don't like chaotic matches and the fact that 64 players already brought a lot of chaos by the number of enemies you had to face when capturing or defending a flag alone was THE factor that I say 48 is better than 64. So, your mileage may vary and I can understand that for SOME people, those 64 player matches might have been more fun.

  • @MyJetpack BF1 had some good ones too, such as Argonne Forest, Verdun and Fort Vaux. Vehicles could be removed from Amiens too and I think it'd still work well (or just leave them in as I don't remember them being problematic).

Yeah I enjoyed BF1 too, Argonne Forest was a definite favourite, loved that map.

  • @MyJetpackThe BF3 expansion DLC Close Quarters was one of the best infy-centric additions ever (https://www.ign.com/wikis/battlefield-3/Close_Quarters#Release_Dates) It brought a lot of fun but most importantly introduced Gun Master. They’ve tried to recreate that on 2042 but have to use all weapons as they have no where near enough in AOW to allow a progression. Oops, three pistols is a pretty short round lol. I didn’t find it as fun. It had 10 weapons just in that DLC, almost as many as in 2042 total. Lost my train of thought about your original post there…. We need more weapons in 2042 as well as some cool infantry based maps. Part of that will need even more maps for vehicles / combined arms because that’s fun too, and we used to have the options. It’s good to take break and get in some CQB.

Yeah I have fond memories of that Close Quarters DLC. When I am on the F2 flag on Kaleidoscope map it makes me think of the Ziba Tower map.

I would love to be able to play some new Close Quarter maps in BF2042 for a change of pace.
