Is it just me or are footsteps REALLY loud?

As the title says, footsteps seem really loud to me to the extent I find myself looking all around for the perpetrator but find no one near. I then die to some one 20-30 yards away!

@Trokey66 No you are not alone. Footsteps are very loud, and it is very hard to determine the direction they are coming from. I think they are the same volume for someone that is 20m or 2m far away.
