@Psubond  Now here's the big crux of the apple pie. This happens to the Recon Light Vehicle and Hovercraft, a mere grenade can kill the driver of a Recon, they're classified as "Light" vehicles, you can't take the Recon and then prevent your team from having a Tank.
You can take the Night Bird and prevent your team from having a proper helicopter that doesn't 1 shot the pilot and leave the Heli on half HP.
That's the problem, why is the Night Bird in this category if it's possible to directly kill the pilot with a missile?
I feel like this must be a bug because its never happened before 1.0.0. So I'm guessing it has something to do with the new physics given to aircraft in the update.

where else are you going to put it? it was an attack aircraft being used for attack. you can argue for the creation of a scout category but i think if they do that everything but miniguns should be removed because at that point it's not an attack aircraft

@PsubondI think it's fine where it is, but this "thing" where a stinger can kill a pilot needs to be fixed. It was never like that before.

i think it's fine if it is based on where on the nightbird the missile hits. if it hits square on the windscreen or on the side where the pilot is sitting then it should kill him since you can shoot someone through those spots with small arms. anywhere else on the helo, no it shouldn't kill the pilot. i've gotten shot out of a lot of transports with 30mm cannons M5s and stingers when i was the passenger without destroying the vehicle and i've shot a bunch of pilots out of HINDs and condors, why should the nightbird be special in that regard? - S3SSioN_SoL4 years agoSeasoned Ace

Then they must make it so you can kill the Bolte driver with a missile as well. There's too much inconsistencies in this game.
I've never been shot out a transport heli whilst in the Minigun seats. Only the Pilot, 2nd Gunner and passengers are exposed.
Again, this is definitely a bug and I hope they fix it because it happens from a stinger hitting the tail of the Nightbird too. It doesn't matter where the missile hits. - Psubond4 years agoLegend

@PsubondYes. 99%. and If I'm wrong, then it shouldn't kill the driver because again, it's in the "armored" category for a reason. In all my time driving Bolts, I've never been killed straight out of the driver seat by explosives. Fly the Nightbird after 1.0.0 and bam, suddenly a missile can kill you without destroying the vehicle.

and yes it matters where the missile hits the nightbird. i had a bunch of hits on nightbirds last night without killing pilot. (no kill on first missile, second missile usually got them unless they did some of that pilot * and ran)

@PsubondThat's very strange, because you can't see the occupants who operate the miniguns in either the Hind or Condor...
And obviously it does not matter because I've just said, I've experienced a missile kill from impacting on the Tail.

if it didn't destroy the aircraft i would need to see that to believe it
 - S3SSioN_SoL4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Psubond Good question. Should probably ask DICE because I don't know. I thought maybe they would cover the front panel with armor.

i agree, it is odd, but the 30mm cannon as well as M5 rocket launchers have gotten me. i'll record it next time and post the vid

@Psubond Is it so hard to believe that the explosive splash damage on aircraft and some land vehicles is bugged? lmao. That's a lot of mental gymnastics tbh. I'd would've uploaded that video as well but it got corrupted by Nvidia's recording thing.
 - S3SSioN_SoL4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Psubond You should, and remember, I am talking about the Minigun seats. I am fully aware that the other seats are exposed to other sources of damage.
 - S3SSioN_SoL4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Psubond Not really... They nerfed the armor on the Hovercraft and then they nerfed the 30mm Cannon on the Bolte. I think made a minor nerf to the armor on the Bolte but there ability to withstand small arms fire remained unchanged. A M5 is not exactly small arms fire.

I had a Bolte run up on me last night, I jumped out of the way and he ran into a dumpster. I fired a full mag into the windshield with zero effect until I reloaded and the driver jumped out and got me on the animation...testing needs done. I think I may have the vid...I'll post it when I get home if I have it...I had clipped it because it spawned me in the road right in front of the speeding Bolte. Spawn mechanics ya know 🙂

do it from the side and you will have a different result. i have killed lots of drivers like that

I was able to recover the video that was corrupted. As you will see from it, the missile explodes to the back left of the Nightbird. The Nightbird is at full HP and so is the Pilot. There's no reason I, the Pilot, should've taken any damage from that explosion. You will also notice from the video, the serious inconsistency with flares not deploying even though I used it and was shown as having been deployed, yet had no effect on diverting the missile. I'm certain this video contains two bugs, the flare bug and the missiles being able to damage pilots bug.

@S3SSioN_SoL i slowed it down and watched it at .25 speed. from the position of the guy who shot the stinger and the way you kicked the helo around to the left when you came in behind the hill it hit somewhere on the front left quadrant of the helo which would be where you are sitting. really looked to me like it hit right on the side of the cockpit where you are sitting

I thought you would say that 😉, so I took the liberty of screenshoting the missile's trajectory before impact.
Here you can see where the missile approaches the Nightbird from the Back Left. The Nightbird Remains facing this angle for the entirety of the missile strike.
The impact is behind the Nightbird to its left, as you can see from the Nightbird's silhouette in the explosion.
Another screenshot of the explosion being behind the Nightbird to the left.
I hope I've shown you enough and EA/DICE for that matter, to prove that something is bugged out with the "Buzzard" and that regardless of where missiles explode, they should never directly kill the Pilot out of the aircraft. Imagine this happens to a Jet pilot lmao.
 - Psubond4 years agoLegend
i stick with my original assesment on the angle that you were hit due to location of the shooter and the way you were moving. a higher frame rate vid would help if you have it. i shot a few nightbirds with stingers last night (was kinda surprised, usually people take the easy mode stealth helos now) and didn't get any pilot kills on full health helos.
there is not currently a bug that causes the pilot to be instakilled consistently, and from looking at the vid and the screenshots together it looks like the missile hit on the front left side of the cockpit
