Yea I have an issue with the foot steps. Something wonky about them that makes it hard to pinpoint where the person is. The directional sound IS THERE... but it's just off. As you mentioned... past BF's and in CoD... I can be blindfolded and tell almost exactly where the person is. Like behind and above me 20 feet away. In this game I can be in a 3 story house and someone could be on the floor above me walking around and the best I can do is say that someone is above or below me... LoL.
Edit: And the sound is weird in general for foot steps. I think the footstep sounds were recorded in the DICE mens room or something.

Agreed @-NME-M0710NM4N ,
The sound schemes in BF2042 are the result of very poor and simplistic rushed sound engineering.
The sounds and scheme are very simplistic 'flat', so no nuances of direction and proximity.
Like mono-sound computer games from the 80-ties...
BF2042 sound engineering is much below the standards of prior BF games and current day FPS games from competitors.
