A chart showing the number of maps in Live Service games.

Sadly that speaks volumes, what has happened to Battlefield. ?

It's tragic isn't it.
We were spoilt for maps with BF4 but since BF1 the number of maps, the number of game modes, weapons, etc has reduced, while microtransactions have increased.
Clearly EA have the view that minimal effort is the way forward, while milking the franchise fans for every dollar they can get. It will be the death of battlefield.
I guess support for 2042 will end with S4, and maybe we'll have a new game for the end of 2023. Who knows and after this disaster, do many of us care?
Once again DICE have gone quiet, we don't know what S2 will feature and it's less that 3 weeks away!
The contempt towards players is astonishing
- 4 years ago@ABC-Warrior-real I've already decided that I won't be buying the next BF. At the least I'll be waiting until 12 months after launch to see what the state of the game is and potentially get it cheap. They certainly won't be getting pre orders and RRP prices from me ever again. RIP DICE.

@ABC-Warrior-realWhy build 4 when we can just build one? What they don't understand is we will be complaining each season that comes out that there's too little content.
The amount of players playing this game won't increase substantially either and stay strong.
It will be the same with season one. 8,000 players on steam charts then drop to under 4,000 after they get tired of the one map.
We may get a little more if theres a couple more reworks but there won't be a huge player increase unless theres a BIG solid content drop. - 4 years ago
@ABC-Warrior-realI doubt we'll see 20,000 players on steam charts for the remaining of this games life cycle.
- 4 years ago@WedgeTornado There doesn't really "need" to be. I'm just wondering if DICE is ever going to spin the marketing machine back up and push to get more players into the game, both new and returning. I'd have thought it would be with S1, but that didn't seem to happen. Hoping they're planning for a big marketing push for S2/3 or something, because the game really, really needs more players to be able to fill out even just the four AOW modes and featured Portal modes, to say nothing of player-run Portal servers.

The map comparison is one thing, now do a weapon comparison. We will hit 1 year since launch near the end of Season 2 and there is a good chance that in that entire year we will have gotten 2 new maps and 4-5 new weapons.

Also a GREAT point. Its laziness at its worst

I appreciate that CoD Warzone is free, but isn't it amazing that they reportedly lost about 30 million players since last year, but still have over 70 million regular players. I'd be amazed if 2042 has players in the tens of thousands.
With such low numbers, it is hard for EA to justify spending too much on 2042. As others have suggested, they will meet their obligation to deliver 4 seasons of content and that will be that. Drop kicked into the bin, and start all over again with the next game. But do we think they will have learned anything from 2042?

I have a feeling when 6 days in Falleuja releases this fall/winter, BF will be a distant memory
- 4 years ago@mputnam7 lol, that game's still coming out and people remember it?

its absolutely is coming out. I also credit that company big time for ( pay attention EA). taking their time, making sure the game play is solid and that the game has a proper level of quality so when it's released, paying customers are happy and love playing it with no little to no problems.
crazy concept.

Finishing development on a game before asking people to pay for it? Why do that when the tried and true strategy of rushing a half-finished game out the door, gaslighting the community, putting out banger trailers that don't show gameplay and misrepresent the quality of the product, and then complaining about how brutal player expectations are and how you're just a poor AAA studio working under a AAA publisher and being expected to release a completed, marginally well designed game.
I'm just laughing at how bad the communications strategy continues to be. This, again, isn't directed at CM's proper since they get their marching orders from above. This is directed at the studio/game leads who are determining and enforcing this "strategy" of continually pissing off their community because apparently the expectation that DICE acts like a "live-service" company while running a live-service game is another one of those "brutal expectations".
Sorry to Andy, who is actually a great guy (seriously, his time at GI was great and he's genuinely a super nice guy!), but that quip is gonna follow DICE for years.
