I think the best defense for now would be a better offense. Making tank cannons and MGs more powerful and accurate will prevent infantry from being able to get as many good hits on them as they currently can. Also APS in BF4 was busted, as it was basically a magic shield that could defeat an entire barrage of jet cannon shells from a strafing run. Maybe if they made APS accurate, IE having a limited number of charges per use that could be depleted if there is too much oncoming fire.
I had fun with ERA in BF3; knowing how to position your vehicle made tank vs. tank fights very interesting. Of course a LAV could also wreck multiple MBTs at the same time, so the balance in that game was far from perfect.

Great post, I’m a mechanic so I mostly play gunner and jump out mid fight to repair.
Occasionaly I also drive and have noticed in some positions some of the points you’ve raised.
It does indeed take like 3-4 hits with the machine gun to kill infantry which just seems rediculous. One bullet should be enough, or two but with some side effect like a flash bang, to effect to the infantry being hit by such a big bullet! But also give infantry a chance to survive.
And for someone who can’t sim for *, I’m lucky if I kill any infantry at all.
the balance for this in BF 4 was also off. I can assure you that in real life, you wouldn’t poke your dam head around a corner to stair down the barrel (of what a .50calibre?) of a gun to setup and shoot a dam rocket launcher. Yet here we are, seemly invincible infantry that don’t have to manoeuvre and flank your position.
The burning flares on BF did a better job anything else. Especially for people that can’t aim. I’m assuming that is hidden under a unlock?
Also, the splash damage on the main gun is atrocious. Infantry just dancing around. Stupid. 1-2m splash damage, or some sort of side effect for infantry would be neat.
And what even is that useless bomb spitter thing? It’s like it ignores physics with its bizzare trajectory amd equally useless effect on infantry.- FlibberMeister4 years agoSeasoned Ace
Infantry
one dead tank = recoiless or c5.
Tank
One infantry = multiple tank shells + over heated machine gun + spotting, + infantry doing a dance + mechanic repairing 15million spams.
- 4 years ago@FlibberMeister That is pretty much the experience currently. It costs nothing to pull a rocket after being downed, or C5, and spam them. Especially with a slow turret traverse rate, it allows more up time for your threats, or gives them time to reposition.
I also had my first encounter with that sniper rifle which for some reason can damage high armored vehicles? Needless to say I found it not only very silly that 3 people clumped up couldn't be touched to punish their weapon choice, but the amount of damage and uptime it has is crazy.
- 4 years ago@GamerlnParadise An APS should not be the catchall for everything, but it should be able to be balanced to mitigate some of the incoming spam since currently tanks do not have the health pool to deal with mass spawned launcher wielding people, let alone a means to try and defend against an aerial lock to try and seek cover. The issue again, with ERA being that if it is locked behind a kill requirement, this will make the rare tank fight even more rare because of the advantage it gives unless this was also made standard, but again this would dip into the feeling of just hurling around at something that have little effect, but with the current rocket spam I'd almost want to see what this looks like. Having both ERA and an APS that only dealt with shoulder fired rockets.
As for the issue with no answer for air lock on's currently, a lock break or electronic warfare type jam would be nice, at least to reposition or flee instead of just being a free kill constantly for a jet.
