@Mr__H_A_P_P_Y_ea What about Call of Duty? You can unlock weapons (and XP) in multiplayer, just by playing zombies, also a 'PvE experience'.
Anyway, that's beside the point. They promised progression against AI as a feature. It was a selling point.

My money is that this is all about the scoreboard. AI stats and scoreboards can't live together. I reckon this is prep for giving you want you want.
Not 100% sure what the journey Dice were going to take us on, but I think the apparent popularity of the scoreboard might mean we will never get to see it.

It has various simple solutions - let's not display bots on the scoreboard at all or mark them clearly, put there some filter and so on. But I guess PvE players aren't much interested in a global scoreboard there anyway (I certainly do not care about it even in the multiplayer, the current solution is entirely sufficient to me). But the scoreboard present or not, it's not a reason to disable the progression there entirely, two very unrelated things (as the weapons, etc. progression isn't a part of the scoreboard and you can still get XP in the solo/co-op - if you meant the stats gained from that mode).

Exactly. We've had lots of discussion on here about how the bots will perform (allegedly) with the same range of skills as a real player so there is no reason if that is true for your kills not to be credited in the same way KDR, levelling-up etc. But that means you need to ignore the disparity in Portal and just allow players to grind where and when they want to even it if means players making farming servers in Portal . I actually don't have a problem with that - in the early days there were plenty of servers for stats padding. I think Dice were going down that route - a bit of the old freedom we all used to enjoy before people started worrying about KDR.
But then the kickback about the scoreboard happened, so I think we are seeing Dice reacting to that. Can you imagine the fuss when KDR bandits get pipped to the top of the scoreboard by AI soldiers? Or less skilful players watching AI run all over them? Or AI solders performing at a low level (which some of them must if they play like real players) and letting a squad down?
So, if you have a scoreboard, AI needs to be detached from the scoring system co you can't let players see how they are doing. I would not be surprised if that is what we are seeing. Insisting on a scoreboard has unexpected consequences. i'm a bit p****** about the whole thing really. I was perfectly happy with the way things were going. I doubt if it is just as simple as filtering AI from the scoreboard though. Not that I can describe how, but I get the feeling that the realationship between AI scores and the scoring system is more complex than we might imagine.
Of course I may have got this completely wrong but.....?
- 4 years ago@lzilchetl Isn't that how Titanfall works? Not that I have a problem with that. The only problem for DICE is that they don't have servers with no AI.

Either seperate the progression between the core game and Portal or automatically disable progression in Portal if bots hp is lowered below a certain threshold in the server settings, it's quite a simple fix really. It'll be interesting to see what they decide to do about it.
