This is straight up false advertising at this point. We were told that progression would be linked across all modes. It is irrelevant that players found an exploit in portal mode, to blame them is to shoot our selves in the foot.
It still takes an insane amount of hours to unlock everything for one weapon/character/vehicle, let alone everything. If they couldn’t foresee this than that’s on them.
How this effects SP/Coop, it doesn’t. There was no reason for them to pull progression from SP/COOP.
The reality is that we are seeing the standard greed that EA and the modern gaming industry is known for.
They realized that players will be able to unlock everything without competing online and thus, have no reason to spend more money on the “shop”.
They did this with battlefront 2, which had no offline progression, and would’ve taken tens of thousands of in game hours to unlock something as simple as Darth Vader. When exposed they backed off and eventually let allowed everything to be unlocked in an “anniversary edition” which was just one last attempt at a cash grab for another failed game years later.
BF 2042 is fairing out to be no different. To obtain any meaningful progression, players would need to spend thousands and thousands of hours to gain meaningful progress. Or spend more money. This isn’t cosmetic shiny skins but weapons, attachments, vehicles and equipment.
They can pretend their hands are tied, and we can pretend the bread crumbs we’ve been fed is a meal. But when games like COD allow for offline play with bots, and all unlocks available separate from MP. The choice is clear, they are intentionally forcing us to pay more money for a game that is nearly $100, unfinished, unpolished, and ultimately a disappointment.
