@TerofishyIt probably will be offline eventually like it was added in Battlefront 2. Just not at launch.
- Jesse1655 years agoSeasoned Ace@ChrisAWJBethel Yea but that one only had the War Stories (that can be played offline) and the Combined Arms missions. It's bots were never made for the multiplayer modes to begin with.
2042 is different and like Battlefront 2 they could make them available offline later after we see how they are in the online matches. - ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Jesse165 What makes you say that? I'm optimistic about offline bots in Battlefield again, but DICE just doesn't get it. As soon as they moved to the Frostbite Engine they (intentionally) engineered an environment in which offline play would be infeasible.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Jesse165 Ah. I figured as much.

I think that popularity of this topic is sending clear message to DICE/EA.
When they decided to make game online only, they had to accept the possibility of a negative feedbacks from many players. Previous Battlefield titles all had some kind of campaign which we were able to play offline. Although players have been asking for offline bots mode for years, Battlefield 2042 will be title where I personally draw the line and will not buy game, if there wont be some kind of offline mode at some point.
Renting a game is just nonsense and this is not true Battlefield anymore in my opinion.

@Terofishyso they dont want us offline ??? They see Jack Sparrows And Daivee Joens behind every corner. What a paranoia.
I was expecting to, in a worst case scenario to have my own server at home and not bother with cheats and annoying people in general. Or imbalances exploited to max by no backbone no shame folks.
I guess some sort of server emulator will have to do ?
My interest is to never bother playing online with folks when bots actually work as intended. (just like old times) BF is good enough without enemy ppl. Bonus on top would be that I wont be sending any data to overload EA data mining. You see, I only want to help them. Less data to spy, and pilfer thorough, in their interest.
In mine, well, dont bother me :P Bfbc 2 was the first major letdown in not having bots.
I bought bf 4 a week ago because Im expecting a mod for that game that has the server with bots that Ill run simultaneously. No other reason. Playing with exploiters and cheaters wasnt in my interest in the first place and it is more of a well, whatever, 'XYZ' didnt make the bots themselves in the first place.
So ... it looks like after all they really hate the idea of getting my money. Too 'bad' I guess :D lol.
looks like another one to pass. Do they really think they can insult their customers and get away with it ? If you dont like it, dont buy, all over again ... xD and here I thought they actually had a moment of enlightenment. To me personally it feels like acting in bad faith. But it is illustrious EA? so who could ever suspect that ?!
- Jesse1655 years agoSeasoned Ace
@TomaSkTemplarThat will still work in a way. Can still create our own SinglePlayer servers with up to 127 bots (64 vs 64) on NextGen and PC or 63 bots (32 vs 32) on PS4 and Xbox One.
However those are still online only and that is the real problem because when EA Servers go down it becomes completely unplayable no matter how good your internet is.
Can't connect to what isn't there. - 5 years ago
@Jesse165well, I know there is a half-finished mod for bfbc 2 that I unfortunately could not make to run. I created my account on my own server on my own computer that was as if EA. (master server emulator MASA or so) bot mod that is.
Similar for bf 3 and 4 I believe. The mod redirected the game from ea to my own, modded server or how to name it emulator gets rid of geolocation and other espionage gadgetry.
It is supposedly online but its on my own computer this online :P Real online not required.when the base game works and you only need to be online, redirecting to your own server should work fine. I guess. Kissing EA tentacles goodbye.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Jesse165 @EA_Atic DICE, I hope you've been listening to us on this topic. This is a feature we're VERY passionate about.

A lot of of games you buy today are just rented property which you don't really own. You can find a few titles here and there on platforms like Steam but it's the way it is for now. That's why I'm slowly switching to GOG - no fuss about connection availability, launchers etc. Unfortunately, a lot of devs don't care about DRM free options so you're stuck with a choice to ''rent'' a game or not to play it at all. But it's been slowly changing in positive direction for last few years.
- tyl04135 years agoSeasoned Veteran@dragonslayerxxx1 I'm still fine with most stuff on Steam bc even if they're not DRM free they're easy enough to patch, problem is when you get Denuvo, extra accounts, constant connection requirements involved it becomes much harder to fix. If they are not willing to put out a DRM-free version well at least let us fix it ourselves.

@TerofishyIt has been a long time since anyone has 'owned' a game, you own a License to use the software and this can be revoked anytime.
- 5 years ago@Trokey66 yeah but how many times do you see that happen? Single player games are basically the same, but they don't care as long as you paid them for it lol.
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace@ArchAngeL-PCX Very true however some on here think they own the game, they don't, that is the point I am making.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@Trokey66 We own the physical disc/digital download of the game. What you're talking about is Intellectual Property. Pretty much every publisher intentionally treats a game you buy as a service instead of goods, which is why there's DRM and the aforementioned license to run the software on your console. It's dishonest, since we actually paid money to obtain the copy of the game, and things don't seem to be changing anytime soon.

@Trokey66They'll get it when their online only game gets shut down lol.
I played Marvel Heroes Omega for 4 years and in an instant it was gone. One of the main creators talked about how odd it felt because with other games he made he could at least replay it and show someone. But he spent like 7 years on Marvel Heroes, and its just gone. Servers shut down and no game to show for it or anyone to play. And everything players bought in game got shut down with it.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@ArchAngeL-PCX All the more reason for offline bots in Battlefield.
- 5 years ago@ChrisAWJBethel Exactly. Like in Battlefront 2. If EA shuts that game's servers down, you can still play Supremacy, Co-op, Starfighter Assault, standard Arcade modes, and the single player all offline.
- ChrisAWJBethel5 years agoSeasoned Ace@ArchAngeL-PCX Actually, Supremacy, Campaign, and Arcade are the only modes available offline.
- 5 years ago@ChrisAWJBethel You pay money to get permission (a license) to use someone else's property (the game). You don't own the game (software, code) just because you bought its container (the disc). Same goes for music.
- 5 years ago@ChrisAWJBethel Co-op is indeed available offline. I've played it. I'm pretty sure they added Starfighter Assault offline too. Both are selections in the arcade.
@ChugKendallTrue, but again this is a moot point because how often do you actually see a game retailer "revoke" your license to a game you bought? lol You buy the game and go home, or download it. That was the whole controversy behind DRM since DRM and "always online" is basically the only way to shut someone down from playing what usually is an offline game. Same thing in music.
@ArchAngeL-PCXThe retailer doesn't own the game, so they can't revoke anything; it is up to the owner to do that, and they usually do it through policing agreements with their network partners. But as the owner, the company should be able to do whatever they want with their product, anyway--including telling you that you are no longer allowed to use it. You agreed to all of the the terms involved when you voluntarily purchased a limited license to play it. If you didn't want to be bound by any terms, you had the choice to keep your money. Instead, you wanted to play the game, and be bound, more than you wanted your money in your wallet--or your convictions intact.
- Trokey665 years agoSeasoned Ace
@ChrisAWJBethelRead the Terms and conditions. You don't own the game's software, you have a license to use it in the same way you buy a license to use MS Word or Excel for example.
As to revoking the license this could include being caught cheating, altering the code or unauthorised copying. These do happen regularly.
It could also include shutting the game down for whatever reason and you won't have a leg to stand on because you accepted and 'signed' the terms and conditions when you bought the license.
- 5 years ago@ChugKendall Your reading WAY too much into what I posted. lol
We all know what an EULA is. The point is, they'll never care enough to come shut a single player game down on you. lol You'll be able to play it as long as you have a working console. So this is just a circular argument of semantics.
See Sony's "Used game policy" from their now classic PS4 E3 conference of 2013 for more info. lol
