@KyosjiRadical change to the core idea of Conquest might shatter the pillars of the game. Removal of classes, granting all types of weaponry to everyone, and adding more ego-centric abilities that won`t practically benefit others is a downgrade in some sense especially in vehicular modes.
In the BF2 Special Forces expansion pack one class is able to throw a grappling hook, so teammates could benefit from the situation as well as the enemy if the rope was not removed in time. Also, snipers can deploy some sort of a zip-line in BF2. Also, the whole action was a bit riskier and players really had to calculate their decisions, that was the beauty of the gameplay.
Just coming back from the old golden era titles makes a really bad impression of BF2042. Not to mention missing features somewhat impacting gameplay, the possibility to mod the game, and even set up your own private server with private server statistics.
The entire franchise went downhill from 2007. Slowly by slowly removing, even more, tactical and simulation elements of the battle. Community aspects like rental servers to host your own game.
I keep hearing the same main issues surrounding the BF franchise over and over. Maps in BF3 were clattered extremely and the game felt like a blue-tinted film grain with sun flare causing your eyes to hurt after a few moments of the gameplay. Maps should be detailed but also clear in some way. Conquest with only 4 classes is rather a downgrade. Why won`t we make a free for all Infantry game mode with personal meta builds in a similar manner Gun Master mode works? I see no benefit in playing TDM with C4 or a rocket waiting around the corner, while still ammo might be collected from dropped enemies. The same goes for turrets and the scanning abilities of certain specialists, really fun to see the 3D posture of a player through the wall in TDM, reminds me of all-time the best moments of chasing after cheaters. Lobby and matchmaking are good for BR and Extraction or optionally skill-based games. To make skill-based competitions requires first a strong player base and game modes created to be highly competitive. TDM and Conquest is a game full of rather casual players. Like how the hell skill of a pilot relates to the skill of a tank driver or Infantry player... please tell me.
Later on, some smart guy with Ph.D. in data analysis will give a statement that nobody wants to play Battlefield any longer. First of all, someone should get dirty and see how far the cracks go and check the material inside. If there is a focus around new game modes like Hazard Zone without VoIP, no to limited loot and equipment options live in-game or map control elements, no side quest or challenges, no unforgiving simulator-like elements, progression designed around this particular game mode, and so on, it is less likely for the game to succeed. How is it possible that on every Conquest map there is a little bird and Hovercraft? Look at the previous designs of BF2 for example, on each map, there are usually Vehicles designated for a theatre of war! Even vehicles spawned on the flags, transport vehicles so even if the map happened to be of the Skyrim in design, it was still playable most of the time. I believe that anyone at this point could come up with better gameplay-wise solutions, anyone who spent enough hours in the franchise by not only playing but modding the game, running the communities, etc. No matter of education, intelligence, emotional intelligence, social and financial status, cultural affiliation, and any political boundaries or any social construct imposed or acknowledge by the societal structures.
First of all, someone should understand the strengths of the franchise which was so far the Conquest since the inception, Rush since BC2, and recently Breakthrough (Conquest Assault BF3 if I`m not mistaken) mode based on classes and various vehicular gameplay. The division of roles of each player is determined by the set of equipment, the way the maps were designed. Commander, Squad Leaders and their abilities. Canceling that means ultimately cancellation of Conquest and the whole game by doing so. So what right now, zombie XP farm modes because it looks funky in other games? People used to stay here because of the strong PvP around Conquest. Infantry Conquest 16 was a great Domination mode experience with 3 or 4 flags to hold, and yes meta builds were in play. There is no need for classes in such small Infantry-focused game modes in the same manner as in Gun Master.
50k concurrent players across 5 gaming platforms just after 3 months after the release is a very unimpressive score. Around 5k 24hour peak on steam. Keep advertising BF2042 as Battlefield and count on positive feedback. You cannot just keep riding on the trademark's name, remove or overhaul the main game until it's not recognizable to a point of being technically worse in every aspect. The first approach is to make sure that the pillar aspects of the core game elements stay strong and are being improved, which never happened with 2042. Then, only then some other things might be added to improve the palate with colors. Otherwise, it is always almost guraranRANTteed backlash.
Can someone in headquarters figure that one out or it is another disaster preceding yet another disastrous launch.
