Sadly I think we are stuck with the specialists for now and I don't see them making a different set to represent the other side.
Even the Elite characters in BF5 were different for the various factions.
What I hope we'll get is more free cosmetics to hide their faces. What would be perfect is if they'd delete all the pointless dialogue lines, especially the end of round quips that utterly destroy the notion of this being a serious BF game.
Go back and listen to the in game dialogue in previous games and compare it to this, it's embarrassing.
The specialists aren't likely to disappear but hopefully they can be greatly dialled back.
@ABC-Warrior-realSpecialists aren't going anywhere, they're both baked into the coding and (more importantly) their monetization scheme. The only real hope is for the next battlefield (if anyone will actually buy it at this point) learns from this and goes back to what made the battlefield formula work in the first place.

With almost no players left, the monetization arguments hold less and less water. I also guess that they will stay but for legal reasons as they have promised 4 new specialists (most likely already developed) and they HAVE TO bring them for season 1-4.
Therefore it cannot be done -- even if everyone requests this in the SOON(tm) upcoming 'feedback loop' for specialists.- 4 years ago
@DuaneDibbleyA fair point as far as player base goes and the need to deliver what was promised (for legal reasons). I do however maintain that EA has entered the sunken cost fallacy and don't want to revert their position because it would mean their original plan to make money (that they probably sold to their boss' boss) definitely won't stand a chance if it no longer exists.

That really IS the only hope at this point, the NEXT Battlefield.
As you say specialists and their ridiculous "abilities" are the core of this title (which is a flop by almost any measure) so hopefully Dice or whatever studio works on the next Battlefield title LEARNS from the miscues in this one.
I've already have made a few lengthy posts about what I think of the whole specialist's debacle, but it still amazes me why they didn't just grab the most well-liked features/components/maps of their previous Battlefield titles BF2 through BF4 when looking at making a modern shooter. It was all literally RIGHT THERE!
