I think that I can safely say that a map editor for Battlefield 2042 will never happen. Frostbyte is proprietary to Dice. I have been involved with the Call of Duty mapping tools since CoD2 and I was on the Treyarch closed testing and creation team for the Black Ops editor. I would love to get my hands on a mapping editor for BF but I know that this will never happen. I agree that having it would be great for the community but I have seen the other side on how bad a disaster it can be with errors in maps and so on causing huge serverside problems.
Errors in maps causing server issues is simply bad design though.
If EA want to go down the live service route but think players asking for more content is "brutal" then the best option is to allow people to make their own content.
It's really the future, map design is no longer some kind of specialised field, it's pretty much a hobby these days, when people start wanting to do things for free then paid specialists become obsolete.
