I've been completely put off on how much running you have to do! Hoping they bring out smaller maps as this is a joke..... I'm even thinking of getting a refund.

I'd say play breakthrough, the maps are sectioned off. Spawn on flags/squad mates and use the vehicle call in system. There are many ways to get across the map fast, you can even use the wingsuit specialist and spawn in a transport heli.
Or go play portal, there are smaller game modes there.
