There are so many thing wrong with the game when it comes to gameplay and balance I don't think they should focus on fixing these purely cosmetic things.
As far as I understand, those things are purely cosmetic, right? Or do they alter gameplay in any way, make weapons more accurate or powerful? If they are just those cards that you can put on a player card, then actually does anyone really care? At least more than for functional mouse input of transport vehicles with 40mm grenade launchers or 50mm cannons attached to them?

if there is no sense of progression in the game a lot of people will lose interest. we have become accustomed to RPG elements in modern games and the game has to have them and they have to work. some players don't care about progression but many do and it is also a psychological tool used to keep people playing. if people earn things then they are taken away for no reason (even temporarily) that has the opposite psychological effect
