Muddled tone?
I'm struggling to follow the setting and theme in this iteration of BattleField. What I've gathered is that the world is at war and a vague number of nations have dissolved. The United States and Russia are the last two nations fighting for control of....all the things? Apparently they have enlisted people ( the Non-Pats) from the failed states to fight for their respective side for all the things.
Are we the players, as the non-pats, trying to gain citizenship with either The United States or Russia? What is our motivation? How can the last two solvent countries supply their military with hardware and still have enough left over for the hordes of non-pats? Where are the major battles? Why do I feel like the subplot in the story instead of somehow involved in the main narrative?
Seems like 'non-pats' should have been an optional class with access to legacy arms and vehicles – as a fun aside to the narrative. Is there a cohesive direction in this game?
Why is single player mode filled with faction soldiers that have a rank associated attached to their 'name', while in multi-player it feels like I'm in some kind of Cylon civil war?
Kinda feels like we got Battlefield Remastered ( Via Portal (the BF4 content must be on reserve for a premium DLC 'opportunity')) and what should have been a F2P battlefield inspired product for the diluted e-sports market.
On a positive note I am really enjoying some of the small details put into the game. The Radio feature on some of the vehicles in 2042 is fun, and is a nod to the music that could be played in vehicles in BattleField: Vietnam. I also think it's cool that the BDC reticle on the M5 Recoilless is accurate to it's indicated graduations in meters.
